Adaptive M suspension?
Hey everybody. I notice there’s an Adaptive M Suspension option for $700. What's everybody's though on this? Should I get it or pass on it? I would be driving on SoCal roads.

I wouldn't have bought one without it but that's my preference. The fixed m suspension was too harsh for my liking but I'm also in pothole central Toronto.

Go for adaptive. Works perfect for sport and comfort at the same time. Use it 6 months now and love it!

I'm still waiting for my delivery but based on my 3 test drives (2 sports & 1 adaptive suspension) there was a noticeable difference in comfort.
I ended up ordering adaptive suspension.

For $700 this is a no brainer, IMO. Easily one of the best "bang for your buck" upgrades offered.

I love it. With coding you can enable comfort+ to smooth out rough roads even more. This is now my de facto driving mode when most of my family or colleagues are the car. People are very amazed at the difference from sport+ to comfort+

I test drove an M4, a 4 series with the M-sport suspension, and a 4 series with the adaptive suspension back to back to back in the same day over the same routes with some significant bumps that had bounced my head off the roof in my WRX.
No question - adaptive suspension is a must have imo. |

Damnit reading this made me feel like I picked poorly. Was contemplating adding for the longest time but eventually talked myself out of it. Although I have had a few tell me they decided to not pick it and don't regret it. After all the passive suspension was completely reworked for this vehicle and has been getting a lot of praise for both adaptive and passive for the M340

If you don't have it, just enjoy your car and keep adaptive in mind as an option for your next car. Given the bang for buck others mentioned, for me it will be added to any cars I order in the future. It's nothing to be bummed about if you don't have it -- depending on where and how you drive the differences can be subtle.
The biggest difference I notice on relatively straight roads is that on highways in comfort mode, I can feel the car "bounce" slightly due to the looseness of the suspension. Adaptive locks it down so that it's smooth and quiet like comfort, but the car stays level so there's no bouncing, and curves / off ramps are tightly handled like in sport mode. Definitely my preferred driving mode - they should probably just make it a standard feature. I almost didn't order it because when I asked the sales guy about the pros and cons, he just said it was for when you drive aggressively (which I usually don't). Glad I researched it a bit further because the benefits to daily (normal) driving are substantial. |

I have M-Adaptive suspension. I drive using adaptive mode most of the time except on highways sport mode. this is definitely a no brainer upgrade especially at the cost of $700. The regular sport suspension is just too firm in my opinion for daily driving use in the roads in my area.
The following video, Robert Rothmiller from BMW Driving Dynamics team, briefly mentions that difference between old M-Adaptive Suspension in F30 vs the new one in the G20. Timeframe (14:56)"A little further developed from the predecessor, now allows more volume control, faster switching in the control, but in principle same as the predecessor" |

I have M-Adaptive suspension with the 18" wheel option and non run flat tires. The car is much more compliant over rough road surfaces when compared to my previous 4 series without EDC and non run flat equipped 18" wheels.

If the car I wanted was available and had 100% everything I wanted expect for adaptive suspension...I likely would not pass on the car.
That said in that I am ordering my car I will definitely be checking the adaptive suspension box no doubt |

That exact scenario happened to me, and I passed on the available one and waited another 6 weeks for my build (that included the adaptive suspension). I knew I would regret it if I didn't.

Yeah I want cooling, adaptive suspension and tanzanite - no way I was going to find that on a lot. So I wait for the 2021 order guide to come out

But (to my understanding), the basic M-sport suspension (as opposed to sport-line or luxury line) is harder than the basic suspension in the luxury or sport line (non m-sport cars), is that correct?

Yes. The non-adaptive/fixed M Performance suspension is the most stiff of all the options.

If I had the chance to do it over again, I'd def go for the Adaptive M suspension in my M340. But I'm surprised how well the normal M Sport evens out bumps even though it remains quite stiff. It's not as jolting as I was anticipating and is def livable IMO.
My '14 Infiniti Q60S was much less comfortable over the road imperfections than the G20.
