State Patrol uses both laser and radar. They use radar when "mobile" and laser when stationary. As they drive around, they can measure your speed with their radar guns. However, they can't do that with laser. So if you see a Statey driving towards you, chances are you getting pinged with radar. If you see him on the side of the road, he'll use the laser gun.

A radar/laser detector is only half of the puzzle, you need active laser defense too, such as a laser jammer. The combination of the two provides a good defense against tickets.

The only things you can't fight too well are pacing and when they use the plane overhead with a stopwatch. That's why you need a moon roof, to watch for airborne smokeys!
