I have had 50% on my windshield (Tesla) for four years. I can’t imagine not having it. Windshield tint is, however, illegal in my state. The installer suggested 50% as it would help quite a bit with the bright sun without making it look like police bait. I have an x6 on order and plan to do the same with it. I also did 30% on front row side windows … again, illegal in my state, but not so obvious/dark that it would be likely to attract police attention. Four years and no issues so far.

I did notice some distortion when I first had it installed (when wearing my polarized glasses). I don’t ever notice it now. It may have just been during the ‘curing’ phase that I noticed it.

I'm probably gonna do 70% nano-ceramic tint on the windshield, as well as the other windows.

The 70% will deliver the best heat rejection. My X5 in the pictures below, has 35% on the front door windows and 70% installed on the windshield, back doors, rear glass and moon roof. All nanoceramic.

I'm quite happy with it, 70% on the windshield lets me drive at night with good visibiity, I have not much use for sunglases in the car, because there is less glare, but if the sun is right in front, I do put my sunglasees on.

Does 35% match the darkness of the factory tint or is it lighter?

It is a little lighter, maybe 25% matches best. I got 35% because it is the local legal limit for the front windows.

Have you guys had any concerns tinting the windshield? The installer I went to will happily do the door windows and the rear screen - but advised against the windshield. Gave me two reasons: (1) that it’s illegal in Poland (and generally EU), and (2) that they want to avoid the risk of claims from any damages which can be caused with the installation procedure which requires the use of „a lot of water”

I understand #1, but #2 seems to me to be an excuse… should I go to a different shop, or is there some merit to that concern?

The shop I chose is one of the longest existing and I’ve had good experience with them so far (they put ceramic coating on 2 of my previous cars). They work with lots of higher end cars and do ceramic, PPF, tinting and interior care. Not some random newbies…

#2 is a valid claim, Some cars are worst than others.....as module may be directly underneath.

However, any -competent tinter- wouldn't have any concerns for the most past as there are -soak ropes- they stuff in the cavity primarily to catch this water during this process. In addition to putting up the same protection ontop of the dash.

Maybe he's just had bad luck and had to spend $$$$ on a replacement module out of pocket and just weary......but with the said, see Sentence #2. Should not be a issue at all...

yes, thanks

that was what I was thinking as well - so many cars out there with tinted glass, that I'd be hardly the first person to experiment on with - meaning, there must be solutions for this.

On the other hand, I do understand how uncomfortable and risky the procedure is... reaching to the windshield, removing all the fine particles, getting rid of air bubbles, avoiding warping of the film... I can think of a lot of reasons they don't want to touch it
