The F40 compared to the F20:

rear legroom has increased by 33 mm and headroom by 19 mm

At least this GC version might solve the weird scrunched up rear end the 2 has. Looks promising.

I’m also curious as to BMW’s thought process regarding the “Gran Coupe” lineup. Seems counterintuitive to release 4-door versions of 2-door Series platforms when they already have a 4-door Series lineup.

At least with the 4 series gran coupe, it looks and feels different to drive. The driving position is better, and it corners flatter, with less body roll (even with base suspension). It's probably due to the wider stance and lower center of gravity relative to the f30 s series.

Well G20 3 series is almost E39 5 series big, so a smaller 4 door doesn't sound crazy

Keep in mind that's not the same as a rwd based xDrive car. Here's a review of the dynamically similar M135i:

I've been asking myself this question ever since the GC phenomenon began. I can somewhat see a purpose for the 6GC, but a 4GC or 2GC?!?!

The 4er GC is a better looking car then the 3er F30 IMHO.

Not everyone wants to drive a damn boat.

So enter the 2er GC.

Agree with that part.

I'd still prefer the RS3 or the CLA45 over this underpowered slug from Munich.

To be fair, the M235i GC would be more of a comparable product to the CLA35 and S3. It will be interesting to see if BMW responds to the full AMG and RS products.

BMW will not make anything even come close to either one of those cars

My point is nothing BMW will make will even come close to either one of those cars.
I mean, we can hope they can, right? Their freakin' headquarters are a four cylinder. Maybe just dust off an S14 and add a snail?

Nope they turned that into four batteries.

It's still about 2.6 inches shorter. But it's actually wider by an inch and taller by a smidge.

But yes, it's a big sucker.

So, not soon. Almost surely not this generation since the choice would have been made when the series vehicles were in development.
