DIY Watch Club

Not sure if any of you all have heard of this company. I stumbled across a Youtuber discussing his experience with one of their kits.

I have one of their skeleton watch kits on order. I'll report back about my experience building the watch. First time doing something like this too.

I've looked at the DIYwatchclub a couple times but quality is what stopped me from pulling the trigger. Seems like a decent way to tiptoe into modding though which would be fun.

I bought a Seiko from a gent who swapped the 7R36 for an NH36A. Definitely enjoying the hacking ability but it is a bit stiff to wind which makes me wonder if things went back together perfectly smooth.

I'm a fan of the concept for sure. Never gotten one of these kits, but am a fan of people getting into the hobby. I started out on modding seikos and eventually worked my way up to higher end watches and making my own.

everyone starts somewhere. If youre mechanically inclined or good at taking things apart and putting them back together, youll catch on. Theres also a billion youtube videos you can learn from. Its where ive learned everything from servicing seikos to Rolex to tourbillons.

I did my own, which lead me to spend several hundred dollars on tools. Since my mods are done and I have the tools, I keep looking at cheap/fake seikos on ebay to mod. Its a slippery slope. Haha

Kit finally arrived. Been looking through the instructional videos. May work on putting the watch together tomorrow.

Thats pretty cool. I've the fact that you can mod it with seiko skx parts, I might actually try it out, but build it with some other seiko stuff.

Update:

Been generally happy with the watch. Found out the "crystal" is acrylic/plastic. I don't know how I put a scratch on the crystal but I was glad it was plastic as I was able to polish it out with toothpaste. Also, the crystal has a pretty significant dome to it which will make it easily susceptible to future scratches.

I had the watch tested for accuracy by my friend. It was running +16 secs. He managed to regulate it down to about +1 to +3 secs.
