Wrong engine, wrong drivetrain arrangement, wrong badging and wrong styling. Bmw really had a chance to keep enthusiasts happy with the 2 series and they went ahead and ruined that too.

Lol that they are! I tend to complain about bmw a lot but I do always say, "it doesn't matter what I think I'm not their target audience" in reference to things like the M5 and such. But I am literally exactly the type of customer who would hop out of my 335 for a new 2 series if the car was the right set up for me. But I honestly would rather just have a cheaper Japanese car with similar power and features than overpay for "the ultimate driving machine" with FWD and a 4 banger for 10K+ more.

Usually "first drives" praise cars endlessly then the real opinions come out several months later.
This car is already getting roasted by the press.

"We see hints of Toyota Corolla and Dodge Dart in the C-pillars, and the sloping roof and high trunklid mean this little four-door bears a striking resemblance to the X6 from the rear."
Ouch,... If there's any cars you don't want a luxury sedan to resemble, its those three. If there's one vehicle in this class that I'd have to get, it'd be an Audi A/S3.

Wow. Two of the reviews stated that the car had a hard time holding the road.
The reviews were the epitome of- if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. Those journalists know that invites from BMW for the M launches will disappear if the reviews were negative. Tis a shame- I wanted to like this car. Kinda the ugly duckling scenario. A badass WRX fighter. |

Nothing in this class really interest me but I get the case for Mercedes and BMW. Mercedes doesn't have anything below the CLA so if you're looking to enter Mercedes ownership, the CLA is the cheapest way. With BMW, like the Mercedes, it's the lowest entry point but it also extends to current MINI owners who are looking to "upgrade" into something a bit more refined and less funky and playful. At least in design. For the A3, you can't convince anyone that it is a significant upgrade over the Golf outside of the obvious design and badge. You sit in it and you know it's a VW product and I don't mean that in a negative way. |

The 1 Series was that nimble, budget friendly, RWD (with true xDrive if you need it) enthusiast little car. It never made it in North America. Shame!
The 2 Series supposed to be that replacement for over the pond people, even if we never got that hot hatchback. Now, the 2 Series (except the Coupe) is a nowhere design wannabe that brings nothing new to the table and has no BMW ingredients. Shame! They are pushing, screaming and defending their new design language all over, yet, they are deaf to peoples reaction. Good for you BMW, sometimes a wakeup call is need it. Except some will go for good... VW/Audi group is happy... believe me. |

Removing that black trim line on the front, sides and rear would help a lot but not enough.

Just here to say that Autogefuel videos are just so ridiculously long I refuse to watch them. Who has time to watch a car review video that’s almost an hour long?!

I mean, who wants a FWD experience in a BMW? Especially one that attempts to play a part in BMWs sports sedan heritage? I reckon the press will judge this car very harshly. Hopefully the market will, too, and force BMW to correct the ship. Time and money will tell.
