Gearbox/Diff leak?
Just been checking my rear tyres, noticed this 'leak' on the pic. Car not been used today, windy and sunny, but no marks on the drive though. Any thoughts?

I was going to say that might be normal.
The bottom of mine looks like its wet all the time and has been like that since I had the car last year (the car was already 16 months old when purchased so I guess its always been like that too) As my warranty is up end of Oct I thought id get my dealer to have a look just in case, so took it in last month and they said that its fine and there's no leaks. However, when following other beemers, I find myself looking at that area to be sure. It would be good to know from other members if it a normal occurrence. |

A weep would be just a small amount escaping. I imagine there is a gasket between the two sides of the diff so this could be the problem.
Oil based products would tend to spread / creep over the surrounding areas. Why not clean it off with a de-greaser (fairy liquid might do it) and see if it happens again.

Its just a weep, BMW warranty will not do it because it is not dripping. Also there is no gasket between the diff body and back plate. It is a sealer which takes 24hrs to dry.

This is exactly what i have albeit slightly worse. I've commented on this on a separate thread. I guess nothing to worry about until the leak becomes worse or starts dripping on the floor....
