LEASE or BUYING CAR, Tunning detected?
What would happen if you leased the car compared to you buying the car and they detected the piggyback?
Wouldn't it be worthless for BMW to disqualify your warranty if you had a leased car and they were going to be getting it back?? They would be disqualifying 1000's of leased warranty cars and they wouldn't be able to resell it?? By them canceling 1000's of warranties on the cars wouldnt this bring the overall value of the 335i average down?? Also I have NOT read about or seen anyones warranty that has been canceled due to a Tune through BMWNA. All that has happened are NON MOD friendly dealerships not allowing you to receive any warranty work on your car. It also seems to be a MAJOR reoccurring problem in California. All I know is that many people I know (about 10) who are running tunes in the Northeast have had no issues with the dealerships, and the dealerships know about their tune and still do warranty work. |

Hmmm. I did 8 security deposits on my 2 yr/24k lease, so that's $5600. I could always do the buyout, but at my 69% residual, that would be over 37k on my car. Be careful, a tune on a lease car could be expensive depending on your situtation!

Tuning a car thats on a lease could open you up for some hefty fines from the owner of that car.
Roll the dice and take your chances, especially with this new software they have. |

If you modify a lease and decrease the value (ie: turbos more worn, warranty gone, etc.) they can force you to buy the car. You can subsequently trade it in and pay the difference but regardless, it becomes your car.... |

First off Audi is WAY ahead of the game with tunning turboed engines........and they don't use piggy backs they use FLASHES which you will see, will be the way to go with foreseeable tunes with BMW.........also you aren't going to get a blown turbo from a FLASH on a stock Audi Turbo system..... I have the personal experience of owning 3 Audis with flashes, running no cats, full exhaust and down pipe, and never had any issues, warranty or anything "blowing up"

Let me get this straight. Audi has zero problems with you adding a chip/flash to their cars and then bringing them to the dealerships for issues? Wow, I got the wrong car and I was in Germany too. Damnit.

Thats pretty cool. I didn't know Audi was that proactive to offer performance parts like downpipes to customers. Very cool.

I'm good friends with the owner of an Audi dealer and with regards to tunes, they are tolerant so long as its not obvious that the car was tuned. i.e. don't be leaving the tune on the car when you bring it in. They don't want to hear that the car has been tuned etc etc. If you blow a motor they will investigate. |

Can't make you buy the car, but can charge you a hefty enough penalty for excess wear and tear (of which warranty voiding mods is inclusive of) that might make you want to buy the car.

I have brought all my tunes and ALL mods on when bringing my car in for simple warranty things, like oil changes or a rear break light replacement. I have had NO ISSUES, plus a Test pipe is illegal in the state of NY and they said nothing. Now if my engine was to blow I would bring it to the aftermarket porsche turbo shop I go to for help when a couple DV's went bad and started leaking. Obviously if you are serious about modding you need to find a turbo shop that is friendly and helpful and will help you usually free of charge or for minimal dollars to find and fix any simple boost leaks or something like that, but if there was major damage like blown turbo I would have the Porsche turbo shop replace everything back to stock. |
