Do not like, too mazda. Very disappointing bc a solid 2 series would be great option, especially in 4 door.

To me it’s a shame you can’t get it in manual in the US. BMW had a chance to differentiate themselves from all of the other entry level “luxury” entries in the market, and could have thrown a bone to the enthusiasts while at it.

Small size, AWD, 4 doors, and a manual would honestly not have been all that bad of a package.

The looks of the car are meh. In colors other than what they are showing in the press photos it looks better (Red, white, and the light blue). I’d honestly consider it to replace my Honda Accord daily if you could get a manual, but I’m sure hell will freeze over before they offer that in the US.

I pray the G87 doesn't resemble this POS one iota.

Ya know...thinking back, this looks a LOT like one of the very early renders of this car. There was a set before Paul Bracq did his great work, and there was a white M2 variant that I remember...So it appears that BMW was on track with a design with this one a couple years that we had visibility to. We just weren't paying enough attention. I tried searching the 2 series board, but they seem to have cleaned up, meaning that a 2-ish year old post is long gone.

Aha: Found the link

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=907055

Paul's Render would have sold like hotcakes. I know I'd be out of my car for one...after 20 years.

WTF is this!!!

BMW has completely lost it. It does not look like a BMW from any angle and where is the Hoffmeister kink?

One of the worst designs in the entire car industry! Just horrible. The direction BMW is heading in terms of performance and styling is awful.

Well, I don't think any FWD M235is rolling around has any effect on the enjoyment of my car. If BMW can sell more M Performance cars and thus have more money to plow back into R&D (hopefully to cars I want in the future), then I say bring it on!
unfortunately, not all M / AMG owners that I know have the same selfless view as you do. I can see why, the pricing of cars in general in nearly 100% more than US here in AUS and takes a a lot for one to own an M or AMG.

That is my point. M/AMG buyers choosing their vehicle for its performance shouldn't feel at all threatened. Conversely, I can see those whom purchased their M/AMG because of the badge on the trunk feeling butt hurt because now there's one on a fwd vehicle.
there are people who bought it for the badge and some for the performance and some for both. if it's just performance you are comparing, a JDM will be a lot cheaper and at par on performance. people are different and it's up to what they value and compare

My post was a response to the arrogant M/AMG owners whom are criticizing potential buyers of this car as only shopping for a badge. Yet its they who seem to be focused on the badge.

No, I believe they're focused on the brand, not the badge. Big difference. The brand is supposed to stand for something special, with certain heritage, design cues, and driving dynamics. All of that, literally all of that, has been thrown out the window for abominations of style, zero driving dynamics, ugly proportions, and really nothing that enthusiasts covet.

Downright hideous - have to call it as it is.

Proportions are all wrong, and it's subsequently really awkward no matter which way you look at it.

It's absolutely absurd that you can buy one of these or an x2 (also pointless and ugly), but not a 3er estate in the U.S.

As an aside - the A3/S3/RS3 are soooo much better looking.

Yeah, it's a big window, like their big grills. So they can fit all that stuff that they are throwing out through that window

There is a big difference between being an entry BMW and an econ-box. When 3 series used to be an entry BMW, they were not built on a crap FWD platform with crap design.

If BMW wants to charge near 60K for FAAR platform BMW i.e. M(ini) 235i there needs to be a significantly outstanding trait but judging from the latest M135i, there probably isn't.

This is a near undergraduate project level of effort in engineering and styling and I don't mean that as a compliment. F20 1 series was a better car in every single way bar the interior.

It's essentially a lowered 2 series active tourer with loads of power that impresses no one. I was not satisfied with M240i and I highly doubt this one will do better.

One the positive side, if the price is significantly lower than the previous generation F20 M140i it will make a great buy, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
