I have the same problem except it's not a squeek. It rubs and clicks on something in the steering column and you can actually feel it very slightly through the wheel. It bothers me very much but I'll just have it looked at when I take my car in for it's first service.

I have 10,500 miles and began noticing this around the 5k mark. I also have the sports wheel.

My Parts Order form has 2 parts that were ordered, I believe the second one I am going to post is the culprit for the squeak in the steering wheel, and that the first part is the faulty part responsible for the infamous ticking noise in the seat belt assembly. But here they are:

1) Part #: 72-11-7-037-930; Description: Screw
2) Part #: 61-31-6-965-290; Description: Switch

The description is pretty vague, but you can probably get a better idea of the part at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do
