Question Can VSS be a Retro-fit on a 330d M Sport?

I wonder if this would be possible. Willing to pay £500 for this.

For starters, it is a new steering rack. Can't see it being cost effective, buying a new rack and having it fitted, even if it is physically possible with the addition of a simple software flash/coding.

Hard to guess what it will cost, try getting a quote from a BMW garage. What do you reckon? "Sorry sir, but it isn't possible......"

Thank you Pete. I'll simply have to live with and enjoy my Servotronic Steering.

Are you sure it is a new rack? The only reason ask is that my car is heading back to the dealers tomorrow for a new steering rack (knocking when going over bumps) and the tech said the car would need to be reprogrammed. I was slightly surprised by this as I just have standard steering. He'd disappeared before i got a chance to jokingly ask if he'd reprogram it with VSS.

Has to be a new rack, as the rack itself is a different cut with variable tooth pattern.

Yes, the 320d M Sport has Standard Steering. It's £150 more for Servotronic Steering. It's £375 more for VSS if you have Standard Steering. Why not try and get the latter instead.

If you have Servotronic Steering as I do (328i/335i/330d cars come with this as standard), it would cost an extra £250 to get VSS.

Hi, understand that vss is a whole new rack but I also hear great things about straightforward servotronic steering. Is this just coding/software?

I have no idea. Perhaps Highland Pete would know. Otherwise, ask your BMW Service Department
