I don't know nothin bout no coding, but I sure like mah girlfriend's Ford...

So my girlfriend bought a Focus ST, and in addition to being a blast to drive, it's loaded with all sorts of tech and useful features. One of those is cornering lights, where once you turn the wheel past a certain degree and your headlights are on, it has additional "cornering lights" that supplement light to the inside of the turn to help you see what you're coming around.

Considering our cars most definitely have steering angle sensors in the column assembly (as evidenced by all the sensor failure threads ), I got to wondering... if one were to somehow integrate LED's into the headlight assembly corners, would it be as simple as coding in additional language to turn them on/off when steering angle reaches a certain degree?

I know you guys can do tons of custom work, I hope to someday get the brake force flash on my 07 335i, but I was curious as to whether something like cornering light on/off would be possible.

Thanks!

If you have adaptive headlights, you already have this feature.... It may be cheaper than a bunch of custom work to just buy a set and code it to the vehicle....

not really, they turn a bit but it doesn't illuminate the area immediately to the side like the ST does

say you come around a corner at night, the headlights will follow the road to an extent. But on her car, a side light comes on, illuminating where the curb is, someone stepping off the curb you may not have seen in the dark, etc

similar to the way cadillac did it a few years back

Right, the headlights have a secondary light that comes on to really light up the area to the side of the turn. (Farther than the swing of the standard bulb.)

I actually dislike this feature because I have 6k HiDs installed and the light that comes on is that yellow color like the halos. You may have a light bulb out in your headlight assembly that's not turning on. I'm going to look something up really quick.

Your headlight SHOULD do this....

Hmm... I haven't noticed it, and certainly not to the extent hers does. Maybe a simple bulb/led swap to the auxiliary light would produce a similar effect?

I'll check it out tonight, thanks for the heads up.

Keep in mind, your headlights have to be in the "auto" position for this to activate... The manual activation actually deactivates this feature...

I've sat in my garage and turned the wheel to watch the headlights move, but I really can't recall anything lighting up towards the side

Put ur car in reverse see if any extra lights comes on in the front. If not u don't have it .because it's very noticeable . Or take a pic of your headlight and post it here .

wait, you're saying in reverse, the aux side lights up front come on?

I'll definitely check, but I'd think the lights are the same as any 2007 premium package? Where would these side lights be?

wait, the cornering light comes out of the high beam? seems like a terrible placement (center/front/straight forward) to be very effective at lighting the corner

We're talking about the same thing. I refer to the inside as high beam and the outside (ellipsoid) as low beams... I know they have a high beam function, but traditionally the high beam has been the inside pair on BMW's (and they still act as the high beam when you flash them)
