So i test my cars power sometimes . When ever i use the kickdown which is when i press the accelerator all the way until it clicks , while im shifting manually the car automatically downshifts. When the rpms get really high i try to shift but it doesnt shift up to the next gear. Basically it gets stuck in gear for some odd reason until i release the gas
Anyone know whats up :O

Does your car shift by itself if you go all the way to redline? My car does this weird thing where above 6K RPM or so the car will ignore my manual shift requests until the car hits redline at 7K. At that point, the car will shift on its own.

This is especially annoying in third gear. On the 335, the car is way out of the powerband by the time it finally shifts at redline in third. Once the car shifts finally into to fourth on its own at redline, the acceleration picks up noticeably.

It is supposed to shift automatically when you hit the red line.

Yes but he's saying that it doesn't change when he tries to shift manually BEFORE redline.

You mean when you pull down on the stick? Do you have paddles and if so did you try shifting with them?

wen u hit the kickdown, the click at the bottom, the car will downshift into the lowest gear it can and redline every gear. if u wanna shift manually don't hit the kick down.

Yes, my car has shifter paddles. The car does the same thing whether I use the paddles or the shifter itself. If I let the RPMs get above 6k, I can try to shift via the paddles and the display will show the change from M3 to M4. However, the transmission itself stays in third gear anyways until the car gets to redline.

Using the paddles or shifter below 6k results in an immediate shift, as you would usually expect.

I've written the problem off as a software design issue put in place to keep you and the car from trying to call for a shift at the same time and result in upshifting the car 2 gears instead of 1.

It could just be something weird with the transmission software for my 07 build. You are correct that does take a half a second or so to register a manual shift. However, I could sit above 6k for 4-5 seconds and the car will refuse to shift manually until I hit redline.

I have noticed that the shifts aren't instantaneous either. I really do not like the paddle shifter and the response time.

Unfortunately, I can't. My car is a 10/2006 build 335, and I was told that the flash can only be done for cars built 03/2007 or later.
