Because there have been some great ones sold to the European market and all the other positive statements above.

Think my only issue with wagons is, I have a habit of not liking to drive long cars. RS6 Avant, the Panamera are both cares I had my eyes on but... god too long.

I would've never thought a car as horrible looking as the Panamera would've made it to production. It's like a Cayenne and a Ford Pinto hooked up after bar hopping.

I also like the older ones that were lighter (this 5MT sold for 51k on BaT).

I get the appeal of wagons by car guys, and most of these touring models do look good, but part of me still finds them to be a tad uncool just thanks of their shape.
I also think most households do need one full-fledged CUV/SUV. Even if a wagon can be just as practical for groceries and trips to Home Depot, and X3/X5 just feels roomier and more comfortable for road trips. And we can't neglect the fact market research shows women especially feel safer sitting higher up. Since most households already have one CUV/SUV, the other car doesn't have to be a wagon. May as well get the M3 sedan/M4 at that point.

Fast sporty wagons enable you to have fun while hauling your other toys (bikes, boards, etc) to your chosen destination. While my DD now is a 6MT Xterra, I do miss my 6MT 2004 V70R. That car was a blast to drive. Handled well (for a long car) and decent 0-60 (5.5 sec IIRC). Too bad the angle gears on these P2's were crap, and the otherwise awesome 4C suspension suffered from strut mounts that turned to hockey pucks after 20k miles.

I love having a wagon. I can take my various outdoor toys to great remote locations and those usually have fun twisty roads enroute. Can't enjoy those roads in an SUV.

I used to HATE wagons from a looks perspective... then I had a family and realized I needed more room to haul stuff around: car parts, small furniture, dog, kid, luggage, etc.
I liked the way a car drove over a SUV, but needed more room than a sedan, and started looking at wagons. Some started to even LOOK appealing to me. So, now I have a 2015 B8.5 Audi Allroad (my second wagon following a 2010 Audi A4 Avant) and I absolutely love it. The wagon ‘look’ has grown on me over time (same with the wife who also used to hate the look of wagons). Pros: Drives like a car, more fun, more planted, has as much room as most small SUVs, more economical (than some SUVs), better looking (subjective) Cons: Less room than “std” size SUVs, worse looking (subjective), ground clearance (if you need it - in MN never had an issue with snow but some regions get more).

As others have said they have the best of everything. Practicality and handling. A SUV will never match the handling of a wagon.
I've always thought they are cool and on the used market Euro wagons sell quick in my area. Starting from the T5-R they were always cool for car people |

Wagon: Practical + enjoyable to drive
I personally never understood the appeal of an SUV if one does not offroad

People like the higher vantage point and it's easier to load items in the cargo area without bending down. Also would feel better about driving on non-paved roads with how BMW orients the oil cooler than I would in a wagon.
