390rwhp on Dynamics Dynamometer

Just updated to 240e, retuned, and added MS pulleys. Should be over 400 now.

Mods at time of dyno were:

TTP, FABSPEED XPIPE, AE REAR SECTION, VELOS TUNE, AA GREEN DROP IN.

Great numbers man! 400whp is great man - 50whp over stock is very significant! Good to see some nice NA numbers. This car should have had this power from the factory IMO.

Just an observation: Some people had said Dyno Dynamics read considerably lower than DynoJet (I think it was an SRT forum where people were saying 10%) but from the stuff I've seen in the m3 community it sounds like it reads right around the same.

Hehe go for it as your next jump. You've definitely taken the NA M3 to the max. If you are anything like the rest of us power junkies you'll need a new fix in a few months. I had my AA gen 1 kit for 6 months but wanted something a bit quicker. 400whp is a lot but imagine an extra 200

Whats with these dyno's lately that only go to 6 or 7k? Is this caliberated wrong or did you not go to 8400? Given the shape of the curve I am guessing it is simply labeled or caliberated incorrectly as peak power is at 8300.

I assume you took it all the way to redline? What gear?

I have same mods minus the rear section which does not do a thing for power anyway so its good to know 390 is seemingly about the norm for those things.

The last bar past on that graph reads 7850. Looks like the curve passed by enough to reach redline to me. That was a 5th year pull, 6sp man. I'll post a video of the run. Audio will be spotty, car wasn't missing, just too loud for the phone microphone.

I think the rule of thumb on the 6sps is to dyno in 4th and DCT 5th...may make a small difference.

Congrats...solid numbers! I'm pretty sure you'll hit the 400whp mark! We basically have the same mods and I put down 401whp on a Dyno Dynamics.

If you look at other dyno's there is a fair bit of hp difference from 7800 to 8500 so if it was not redlined you may have 15-20 hp on the table if you go to 8400

Congrats on the dyno! Those sure are some big numbers. Frank Smith is a great guy and awesome tuner.

Was it Velos that did the 240E update and retune or Frank Smith?

In response to the comment above about DynoDyanmics reading lower. Frank Smith of FS Tuning/Tuning Techniques runs his DynoDynamics without load and has calibrated to read similarly to a neighboring DynoJet. Hence why we don't see the typical "10%" lower reading in this case.

Very nice graph shape.

Will point out that on a Dyno Dynamics a 6MT will make way more power in 5th than it would using the correct gear which is either 3rd or 4th if grip becomes an issue.

Irrespective of the numbers, the baseline and delta from the baseline is what really matters.

Awesome man!! You are right there and I'm sure that the dyno was in 4th. You can check with Frank but that's what he did mine on.
You know your car is a beast! And the new rims look great brother.

That run was before the update to 240e and Frank tuning the car. Going back in Wednesday night to see where it's at after we updated and retuned.

Something to do with the dyno dynamics calculation with respect to road speed and maybe trying to take into account inertia.
We raised this issue maybe 5 years ago. We still do not have a fix.
We would like to run RWD cars in higher gears especially when you are dealing with some with 700Nm @ 5000rpm.

When we run 4WD cars, the power is very close no matter what gear you use, assuming you have grip.

I remember talking to Frank not long ago. Very nice and straight up guy.

He adjusts the correction factor to make the dyno read similar to a dynjojet.
He is very open about this so it all makes sense now.

He may have run the car in a higher gear instead to avoid that.

Any which way, no more questioning any graphs from him... great result and enjoy driving the car!

If you look at the dyno it went past the last line at 7850, looks like it went to 8300rpm to me. Good solid dyno..
