N55/B58 swap into N20 Touring.
Before we begin, I have an F31 Touring, which was only offered in the US with the N20/N26, B48 or N47.
So no, I can't just go "buy a 335/340 and save myself the trouble" I have an N20 328i with manufacture date 05/16 I'm going to be hunting for a full salvage donor 335/340i xdrive sedan for the swap, but I'm trying to limit the man hours going into the work. My biggest question is if the B58 xDrive transmission and motor sub-harnesses will plug into the chassis harness without modification? I'd prefer the B58 over the N55 but not absolutely married to either. I would however like to avoid ripping out the interior and dash board to swap over the chassis harness, nor do I like modifying the harness, so this is probably the most essential part of whether this move forward or not. Just seeing if anyone has experience with this, I've been going through realoem looking at part numbers but haven't been able to get any sort of definitive answer.

I can't tell you for sure, but there are a couple of guys on IG who have S55 swapped an F31. I would reach out to them as a resource, they'll probably be ablee to provide some insight into the process, even if they worked with an S55 rather than a B58.

I think how those guys do it is buy a donor car and just transfer everything over

It's been done before. There is a guy on IG with an F31 who just sourced 440i B58 motor and will be doing the swap in next few months.
