Question on clearance with new wheels (pics)
Hello, I just got a new set of wheels and did a test fit. They clear the brakes and the suspension struts but my question was how much clearance is too little.
They are a 19x9et30 setup and have 1-2mm of clearance with the brakes and about 3-5mm clearance with the suspension struts. I am freely able to rotate the wheel with all 5 bolts tightened. Is there a possibility of movement when driving? Anyone who has more expertise on this subject please chime in. If all else fails I already have a 5mm spacer I can run but wanted to avoid spacers if possible. Thank you! |

That's super close! I would go the spacer route if you are committed to these wheels.

Thank you very much for the replies!
Really not trying to argue, but I was just wondering what the concern is? I really just want to learn and know more about modding cars. Is the fear that the brakes might heat up and expand closer to the wheels or vice versa? Or is it that the wheels can somehow move closer to the brakes when turning? |

Unless your wheel bearings are bad, there should be no movement to make them contact. |

This. I know that it looks "really close" visually, but there should be ZERO bearing play on a new car like this.

If the slightest bit of debris or rock gets thrown up, say goodbye to the inside finish of the rim and along the edge of the caliper. I've been down this road and even if you can run a 5mm spacer, it's well worth it.
