In general it just amazes me the snobbish behavior of some in this thread. BMW was built on SMALL sports sedans and coupes. This is the only car they offer anywhere close to the E30 size which, by the way for all you youngins who don't know the history, was NOT a luxurious car by any means. But it was fun as hell, and many of us want a small car since the 3er is now the size of a 5er. Look down your nose all you want, but I've owned the some of the highest end BMW vehicles in the past, and I have nothing but faith that this thing will perform well and be great regardless of some opinions that its too low end. |

After driving a G20 330i loaner, it felt *huge* and unbalanced compared to my F30 340i. This could be a nice little sweet spot after I ditch my 340i. However, I haven't test driven the M340i yet.

I drive one out if necessity not desire. When I move to a place where one isn't needed I'll be in an M3/5/8 depending on what I feel like.

Lots of junk drives really well and gives good initial quality, or people wouldn't buy it. Are people going to say nice things for a review? Of course

We had an E84 X1 35i and we've test driven the X1 and X2 and they're just not my thing. My GTI is a wildly better execution of fwd, and even good enough to not tempt me with the Golf R. It's not like it's an oversteering monster or anything and I've driven enough STI's and WRX's on track to know that a 50/50 setup is still an understeering mess. |

How about this: "They’re very similar. Except the BMW boasts more torque, a smoother gearbox and is, as near as I can tell, quite a bit louder from the factory."

BMW has been very good at RWD cars. That's where their strength is. VW has long history of building good FWD cars. that their strength. GTI/Golf R is getting better every generation (probably at cheaper price). |

I understand the overall disappointment for an era coming to an end and I agree on the premise that a RWD platform is more engaging that an FWD or AWD.
With that said I agree with others that a FWD platform can still be fun to drive and I can see why BMW has decided to produce some cars like this. Fortunately BMW is still making RWD cars, and will continue so for the near future, so we have the option to choose. There is so much unreasonable hate around these new cars, like for the x2 m35, when the majority of haters have never driven one. |

I like small cars, and part of that means I'm the guy that asked for the MINI for a loaner. And MINIs have been good. I just think there was an opportunity for BMW to keep the fwd cars labeled as MINI and take on the fwd offerings from MB and Audi with that brand, which seems to be dying for good product. I also realize that BMW needed a small SUV and the previous X1 (which we owned) was a compromised package. As were the 1er hatches. So once you opened the door to the X1 it was only a matter of time until you let the small hatch migrate too. |

I owned a first gen x1 as well and in comparison I will never get the new x1, but I'm open to the x2 m35. In my opinion is a good compromise. I understand that BMW opening to fwd with the X1 has lead to more model using that platform and there is now a fear that this will continue to more models. I'm ok if this remains on the entry levels. |

Do most people really care about RWD vs AWD and FWD?
Most people don't even know on which end are the power wheels, let alone what engine they have under the hood. My preference will always be RWD and there is nothing indicating that BMW is intending to abandon a core aspect of their vehicles. But calling this new car garbage is really far fetched imho.

Not sure why you're stepping so far out of your league to bash the 2 when your list of prospective cars is over twice the value of this. There will be a 2 series rwd to appease you, so flinging your poo all over this is wasting your time unless you just like to rant.

I'm not alone thinking BMW shouldn't use a FWD platform for their brand. On a Mini, sure, on a BMW M Performance model that's a hard no
