All The reviews are wrong about one thing with the M4/M3
Tell me if anyone else noticed this, but with every review I have watched OR read, They keep saying "If you opt for the DCT trans, the bmw M4/M3 will achieve 0 to 60 in 4.1 sec"
This is wrong wrong wrong. BMW website states here http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx that if you OPT for the DCT tans, The car will hit 60 in 3.9 sec.. The MANUAL trans is 4.1 sec 0 to 60.. Tell me if anyone else has noticed this discrepancy with all the reviews? I just keep noticing it and had to bring it up. |

You have to keep in perspective that those numbers are with the ultimate conditions and track surface. Most people who have review the cars are fairly new to using the launch control system(for all we know they might just be launching the car without LC). With time and better surface conditions times will get better.
I have seen motor trend do a 0-60 in a GTR in 3.4sec, then the same car was tested by edmunds and they ran a 2.8 0-60. Same cars same LC different drives and surfaces. If BMW quotes 3.9 then we might also see lower numbers then that as BMW is usually very conservative with numbers. Most turbo BMWs are under rated. |

I believe what most of the reviews are quoting as 4.1 DCT is actually the 0-100 KPH (0-62 MPH) time. Which would translate to a sub 4.0 second 0-60 MPH.

Yes, but undoubtedly a few instrumented tests will beat the times given ideal conditions. Nice to know it's a realistic time, though.

I'm not sure you'll see much lower times. The problem isn't lack of power, it's lack of traction with RWD off the line. Even with LC the tires don't hook up without a bit of slippage.

f8x is about 1/2 sec faster than E92 M3 0-60 mph or 0-100 kph.
Some magazine tests likely to post times in the 3.6 - 3.8 range with fully broken-in cars on tracks with good traction, good weather conditions. More consistency likely with launch control.

Agree. The review is quoting the wrong metric. This happens frequently in automotive news articles, and because the 0-60mph 6MT time is equal to the 0-100kmh DCT time in this case, it's perhaps that much more likely to escape to press uncaught.

Bear in mind most of the reviews are from non-US or Uk publications, meaning metric is the measurement - so 0-100 km/h is what matters, not 0-60 mph The online reviews use the wrong line item to make the point. |

Yes most reviews have the specs correct DCT 3.9 and 4.1 for 0-60mph and 0-100kmh.
