I'm not sure it would be as good as you remember it. The chassis is not very rigid by today's standards.

Suspension and chassis design has come a long way since then. Today's car are much stiffer and handle much better. What is still good about the E46 is the styling, the steering, and the size. E46 sized M3 coupe with hydraulic steering, modern suspension, braking, and tires would be a treat to drive.

That's why I said all of that updated for 2021 standards. Of course the S55 engine in the exact same E46 chassis with no changes would not perform well against today's cars.

Yes that's essentially what the M2 competition is minus the styling and steering, which is why I bought one. It would be great to have the E46 body though since that was, in my opinion, peak BMW design. The M2 is close enough.

If they added two more doors than the M2 would be perfect. We had ours for about 8-months before it was totaled and it was excellent, just wish it had rear doors for extra practicality. Since they botched the M3's looks, there's pretty much no good small BMW M 4-door anymore in my opinion.

Well, there is a limit to how many braces you can bolt onto something. The Nissan FM platform is basically 20 years old. I'm not that optimistic it'll be up to par in the handling and ride department.

Is the 370Z so old it's bad to drive? It doesn't seem to me they've just dropped a new powertrain in an old shell... or at least I hope so.

I like the way it looks. With a manual to boot, for it could be a very compelling bit of kit for the price.

This all sounds very promising to me. Well, it was promising until I read it's not coming to Europe at all so I guess I'll never get to drive it.

I'm not surprised, though, Infiniti has already left the continent. We're not even getting the new BRZ.

It the car is 100% 370Z underpinnings. Interior dimensions are identical as they just replaced the panels with new ones. The 370Z is okay to drive but pretty rough around the edges by today's standards (some people may actually like it for that). I'm sure Nissan will be able to smoothen some of that out and hopefully they can properly cool what's going to be a hotter engine under the hood than the VQ. Could be a good car as long as they don't overprice it.

There was always something about the 370Z that made it feel worse than it did on paper for me. I test drove one twice and I was really glad to get back into my Z4M. I'm sure it has more lateral grip stock, but nearly everything else about that car was worse. I suppose my impressions were influenced by how badly the VQ paled in comparison to the S54 despite the figures on paper. The engine just wasn't nearly as responsive or free revving. Didn't feel any faster except at low RPM.

Wow surprised that they are almost identical in size.
From pics and video - the Z looks longer and wider. It doesn’t have the “shrunk” styling of the Supra.

Z has a great design and hoping the performance will be great as well.

Imagine the possibilities with a little aftermarket support.

Also double wishbone suspension up front (something the Supra doesnt have). I will be shocked if they sell the 400HP VR30 car for less than 40k.

I always loved the 300zx when I was a kid. The 350 & 370z cars didn’t ever interest me the same way. I’m cautiously optimistic this new one might be better, though. If the numbers M3_WC & Supra93 posted are accurate it could be very cool.

I agree. Back in the day, my wife had an EX37, which was their SUV version of the G37. It was such a fun SUV to drive and the interior fit and finish were top-notch. I remember how good even features like the surround-view camera were (better even than my current X5), but they used low-res screens and other small details. Infiniti came close to being a solid brand, but then faded fast.

They replaced it with QX50 that was worse in every way possible! Nissan made the GTR and then went backward in terms of engine, suspension, and transmission...the current Infiniti lineup is just plain bad.

I like how the Z-looks, but Nissan has to change so many things about their cars to be interesting again. JMHO.

This is growing on me more & more. When I originally did the pole, I chose the lesser of 2 evils: The Zupra. I did that in hopes that the GR version would come out with a manual.

I wasn't a big fan of the Z when it 1st came out, something seemed off on the back, and still seems off on the front. But it's growing on me, and if I can get a 400hp turbo w/6spd. for around $35k, I might see one in my future in a couple of years.
