High Boost Needs/Suggestions for GC Install

Just got my GCs in the mail on Friday and I am putting together a checklist of items needed for high boost. I'm awd, fbo, and am aware of the obvious drivetrain deficiencies, for now I am solely worried about everything else but the drivetrain.

So far I have:

1.) Not going stage 3 lpfp, just stage 2 and plan on running 50-70% e85 max

2.) 3.5 bar sensor

3.) Tuner, anyone recommend a good tuner for high boost, I'm running MHD now.

4.) Spark plugs, I hear NGK5992 gapped to .22 works well

5.) Different oil? currently running mobil 1 0w-40

6.) Just installed new coils

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you'll wanna regap those plugs to about .18 at stage 2. Double check me on that, not 100% positive.

I did mine at .18 or .20 can't remember. I think that 50% is about the most E you'll want to run with only a stage 2 LPFP. You might get 22psi with the hybrid E85 flash, more with meth. Nowhere near what the turbos are capable of without a Stage 3 and PI. Do silicone inlets and outlets when you do the turbos. Maybe change the oil pan gasket while you're down there. You're going to need a better clutch/flywheel very very soon so be prepared for that. I use Castrol Edge 0 40.

What are your power goals? With proper tuning you should be able to make 525-550whp with just Stage 2 LPFP on e85 mix.. If you want more, then you will need to get either TBI or PI.. If you really want to max power then PI + Stage 3 LPFP is required..

Okay, I think you'll be fine until you go PI and stage 3 LPFP. I run 22-21psi on PS2's and stage 2 LPFP and E4x mix with the standard MHD Hybrid E85 map and JB4.

What did Vargas recommend? They are new turbos with more flow than stage 2+ turbos. To run high boost you would need everything a 700whp single turbo would need in terms of fueling (If you really mean high boost as stated these are 700whp+ turbos, stage 3 pump + port injection will not be optional but required).

I am on stock turbos and have

SPEC 3+ Clutch
SMFW
Fuel it Platinum PI
Stage 3 pump
Inlets and outlets
Helix intercooler
ER Chargepipe pipe with 2 bungs and HKS BOV
VRSF coated DPS into their 3.5inch exhaust

I would imagine all of that is about necessary. Obviously you can choose the brands you prefer but it is all a pretty basic setup. I also understand the clutch will not be a thing for you at this point but possibly in the future if you do choose to max out the turbos.

I guess the term high boost is all relative. I mean high boost to me, I am not planning on maxing these out. I want with more than I plan on using for longevity purposes. There is no way I will hit 700whp without everything on my car exploding at once.

I'd be happy to hit 550-600 but it seems once you go over 550whp, the fueling option is the same from that point up, pi and stage 3 are required.

I think you're going to run out of fuel quick. Options:

1: DI Only:
a: Leave it stock -out of fuel quickly.
b: VTT Single Barrel Shotgun HPFP solution: maxed out at about 550 whp (need at least a stage 2 level lpfp)

2: TBI
Cheapest option, simple, easy to install, doesn't give you much ceiling for fueling, design intent was to be able to max stock turbos with a sane tune on 100% e85 (I helped design it working with Steve), I got about 560 whp on E66 using it. Need at least a stage 2 lpfp.

3: Port injection options (tons of options)
Best current way to have lots of headroom and properly fuel your vehicle (even with the downsides) but you wrote you didn't want to go with port injection... so the point is moot.

Chris,

Im just worry about the injector window with pi, I imagine fuel trims are all over the place. What is the best controller for pi at this point?

For that I would run E30 to not tax the fuel system as much but anything over 500whp is going to need PI or TBI.

Fuel trims won't be all over the place because you will have PI tuned accordingly via controller. TBI may not be as precise because it uses a pressure valve to turn on and off but either way fuel trims are the least of your concerns if tuned right.

And you aren't going to trick me on the high boost low boost convo,lol.

So new and best path it seems.


1.)Purchase jb4 to control pi and old vishnu meth kit. Since fueling won't be a problem with pi, I only want meth for cooling so would a 30meth 70water mix be fine so I can use ww kit without fire risk.

2.) Buy stage 2 lpfp and pi kit

3.) 3.5 bar and adapter

4.) My current oem turbos have many miles and have been flawless except for some wg rattle. Does everyone replace their oil and water lines when replacing turbos, I imagine mine are in decent shape, I have 100k on the car.

That should do it, now what is the best and most reliable pi kit?

Because I have it sitting around from my old vishnu kit, figure that it can't hurt as an additional source of cooling. I know it's overkill most likely with 75%+ e85 but why not incorporate it.

Quick question, how does everyone feel about the safety of these PI kits? I don't mean safety as in the engine, I mean fuel being routed in places not typical on the stock e90.

Given your intended plans and current/projected setup, I think you have more important things to worry about rather than where fuel lines could potentially be routed.
