Drivetrain error plus other problems - battery issue?
Hi all. Hope someone can offer some advice...
I've got a 2020 F44 M235i with a few issues, the most notable that yesterday I got a non-specific drivetrain error, which said I could continue driving. There's no loss of power, no limp-mode, nothing to indicate any problem truth be told. Just the error. Another issue is the high-beam assist stopped working about a month ago, just not there any more. The button on the stalk doesn't do anything. And finally, the iDrive won't update to the latest version. It's downloaded on my phone, transferred successfully, but the car won't initiate the update. So... Do you think this could all be due to a under-performing battery? I've googled everything above and it's been mentioned at least once as an answer to each of these issues, but then so had something else! The car is still on it's original battery and will be 4 years old in a few months. Thanks in advance, any opinions welcomed. |

Have you tried charging the battery to see if that changes anything?
As for the updates, in my experience it can be a little random when they start so that might not be an indicator of anything. |

No, not tried anything yet. It's out of warranty by about 4 months (typically), and so before paying out for dealer diagnostics I wondered about paying around £200 for a new battery – just to see if it fixed it. |

I would try charging it before you spend your money on a new one.
You can also either buy a battery tester or test your battery condition in pretty much every auto shop I think - it should give you a "ballpark" condition of your battery and then you can decide on next steps it there's any issue with it. |
