ESS Tune Help w/Akrapovic
Just got the full akrapovic system with down pipes, drove about a hundred miles with no tune and felt good gain, surprisingly no check engine light. Day after got the ESS Tune and honestly did not feel any power gain. Any ideas what might be going on, possible pants in the seat dyno fail .

Never tried the ESS tune. You need to find a dyno, preferably a load-based one, and get a trace on the stock map and then a trace on the recommended ESS map.

Does the car need to adapt if its only the full exhaust system (no tune)? Want to know this as i plan to get the car dynoed this friday...if it needs to adapt, i'll put on miles and dyno later. OP...do let me know if and when u get the CEL. I went catless yesterday, put about 20miles on the car and no CEL. |

Drove another 100 miles, I feel no real difference, maybe slightly more linear power curve but definitely not much faster if any then stock tune.

This is very interesting...Coming from a modified STI that was turbo'd I expected these cars to have immediate reactions with a couple bolt ons. Hopefully some more driving will solve the problem!

Going to call ESS on monday and confirm the file they sent me is not my stock file or something like that and make sure the file is actually the tune.

keep us posted on what ESS says. maybe you need their stage 2 map?
So with the ESS stage 1, you have the option of switching maps back to stock right? (for dealer visits)...So can u switch back to stock and see if there's any change? I dont trust my butt dyno anymore...so i'm gonna dyno my car with these mods just to see where i'm at, and will redyno again after i get my tune. |

Not sure if you've seen this vid...
Two 1Ms.. One is stock, the other ESS and catback (not sure which). Not much of a difference so your butt might be accurate. see ~1:00 and ~2:00 |

Yea but Im running a downpipe as well which should bump the power up nicely as well. Im thinking something is not right with the tune file. But not sure quite yet, need to dig farther into this.

For comparison my little brother has an N54 335 and I have a Z4 35is (same base tune as a 1M) and there is a huge difference between my 1M and both of those. |

I always assumed it was but then read somewhere on here from someone that owned a 335is before and now 1M and he said there was a nice bump in power from one to the other. Possibly could have just been better gearing from the rear dif that was making if feel faster. |

You should feel obvious extra power as soon as you get out into the street. I've had my 1M tuned and other turbo cars before that and if you don't really feel the difference there's something wrong.

+1. I could experience the Evolve remap, and that was noticeable straight away in improved driveability and increased power.

I found the ESS curve smoother and more linear than stock. The main gain for me is on the later rev range where it keeps climbing. You might able to speak to ESS to give you more power earlier in the rev range?

I am not quite sure why I made similar numbers to orange car, but I can assure you that the car is stock. I really have no reason to lie.

Man! We need answers! I was just preparing to order the ESS unit and expected 65 to 70 HP. I'm I dreaming or is it worth it? |
