Fan/Coolant temperature
It seems that my fan doesn't spin ever when I check it.
It's supposed to cool the engine too, not only work with A/C right? When is it supposed to turn on? Only when the engine gets really hot? Last edited by andas; 12-04-2016 at 07:07 AM.. |

2007 335i here - mine turns on and off after car gets to OT - at least that is when I have been under the hood and it started up. Spins up - runs for a few seconds and turns off. Few minutes later does the same thing.

It's -5 celsius outside right now, and city driving the hidden coolant temp menu showed 96C constantly.
After driving with higher rpms and speeding up rapidly, the temp dropped to 76. Stopped to check if fan was on and it was on. Is the fan supposed to cool that much? And the system is working alright? |

I wish I could give more insight - but without being there it's hard to know if it is cooling too much. If you are able to do a scan I would see if there are any codes present or pending. How long does it take for the car to get to OT?
That being said - 76C seems a bit on the cool side after having been at 96C. You are driving in colder weather - we are getting some colder weather here this week and if it doesn't snow I'll try to get some temp readings. After replacing my battery I had a temp sensor error and the fan kicked on full blast - sounds like the car is about to take off. |

Well now the fan keeps the temp down... For some reason when temperature reaches 80-82C it drops to 75,77 and goes back to 80 and drops again.
Why? Is the coolant temp not accurate of engine temp? Or is there a problem? Heater blows hot air, although takes a bit to warm up and start blowing hot. |
