Engine failure symbol after KNfilter replacement!
Fitted the new 57i intake kit to my 118i yesterday and went for a test run. The sound was great and the car seemed to have a little extra juice between 3000-5000 rpm. But after a 10 minute run the engine failure symbol lit up (yellow) and the car started limping under 1500rpm. There was virtually no power. So I went back home and checked the fitting of the kit, and saw that the intake pipe had come off a little from the throttle housing, causing a very small glitch. I concluded that some air was sucked in without being filtrated. So this morning I adjusted the fitting of the kit and made sure all clamps was tight. And went for test run 2, and it went far better, but it still has less power and some limping under 1500 rpm! What shall i do?? :iono:

I had a check engine light from a K&N before on my e46. It was due to the the filter being oiled too much from the factory and it coated the air flow (MAF) sensors with oil, and set off the CE light. So, it occasionally happens.

Since it happened right after I put the filter in, I reinstalled the factory filter and brought it in for service. I think it did wind up fouling the MAF, and they replaced it. Pretty sure that was on my (then new) 1999 323i, so the memory is a bit fuzzy. |
