I have been considering this upgrade from the "stage 1", but still uncertain whether it is generally intended for those who have an ECU tune and/or running meth/race gas? In other words, I am curious whether a lightly modded car running on 93 octane can "safely" run higher boost with this upgrade.

The JB4 doesn't adjust for timing, ignition, AFR and all that. That's where the tune will come into play. The JB4 will allow you to push the turbos to its limits while the tune will be able to make the necessary adjustments to everything else to take advantage of the extra boost.

This may be best for terry to answer on N54tech but i think you'll be better off staying with the stage 1 unless you want more power then I'd recommend doing a tune and adding the JB4 if still not happy with ECU tune.

There is just no comparison to a real tune. My bms was good for what it did and I was happy I had one. But when I switched to a tune my car turned exercist on me and took off like a bat from hell.

Yes, you can run both and BMS actually has stated that the JB4 would be more geared toward people that have a tune and want to push it to its limits taking advantage of the logging and bcm

Same here! Had the BMS and enjoyed every minute of it but the full ECU tune is a different ballgame. I wouldnt mind running the JB4 alongside my tune either if it provided more benefits
