Wow, I woke up and found 5 pages.
What I was thinking was anything that is not on Edmunds list of options was a mod. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/bmw/...n=1&x=109&y=15 or any items that did not appear on the window price sticker. I have too confess, I did put on BMW valve stem covers.

I don't dislike (double negative) mod, however, I just don't have any money to mod
The only mod that I stay away from is rim. I like my current stock rim. |

When you bought your car, did you specify paint colour, seat & dash trim, wheels & other options? Although I am not a heavy modder myself, I put it to you that specifying your ideal car at the dealer is only one step away from modding. And we ALL do it

I agree with all the people who say that anything that you add after you leave the dealer is considered a mod. You're modifying it from the way you bought it.
Modding is just a way of expressing oneself. If modding didn't exist we would all be driving the same box on four wheels, save for a few engine and trim/option differences. Same thing goes for a house. If you add a deck, plant flowers in the yard, or decorate it in any way, you are essentially modding your home. If it (modding) didn't exist, then we would all be living in a box just like the person right next to us. With modding, we can stand out and express ourselves. |

I don't want my car to look exactly the same as grandma's down the street...

You can't honestly think that putting an iPod in your car is the same as a grotesque wing on the back for example?

its not the same... but putting in new speakers is the same as adding a new wing in terms of modding... one might be less desireable, but its all modding... |

anyway. ive kept my modding minimal. i consider modding anything you do to the car after you signed on the dotted line and gave your dealership a big stinking check. hahaha...damn socal crew always clowning on me...psh...although, i might get some wheels...thats about it...and possibly the hamann kit...and maybe some sort of intake thingamabober...lol... i kid i kid, well except for the wheels..oh and the ipod integration when it comes out.

how can a simple premise sustain a 5+ page long thread
Ok I think it boils down to definition. The most relevant Merriam-Webster definition has modifying as:"to make minor changes in b : to make basic or fundamental changes in often to give a new orientation to or to serve a new end <the wing of a bird is an arm modified for flying>, intransitive verb : to undergo change" In keeping within that definition, even an OEM accessory is considered a mod as it gives a new function or orientation e.g. cd changer, rear spoiler (arguable) etc.

Endearing or not, it's still expressing one's self. I personally wouldn't do it, but at the same time, I wouldn't criticize a person for doing it. I would say, "Hey man, good job. Keep up the good work. Express yourself!" Are you talking about the New IPOD integration or the AUX input? One's a mod and the other is not. |

I have to admit I do keep staring at this picture with blacklines, tint and 199s.
