So apparently it was an erroneous error. The tech cleared the fault and cannot be reproduced. Picking car up this PM.

As you can imagine my patience is thin relating to engine/drivetrain failures of a automobile with 800 miles on the odometer and its participation in the recall. Not only does this create concern on product quality but also trepidation for the future.
Yep. Welcome to the BMW service experience. There is a reason they are near the bottom of JD Powers for service experience.

So is it safe to say that I am part of the 1% and not the 99% with this error?

Took delivery of a frozen white 2013 M5 last week. It died on me today; drivertrain malfunction light came on, message on onboard computer screen displayed, check engine light flashing then turned permanently yellow, the triangle alert. Attempted re-start twice, finally restarted, won't go above 25mph/1,000 rpm. Called BMW Assist, too new, no info in the system, asked me to prepay in advance. After being transferred twice, a supervisor finally over-ride, and supposely a tow truck is on its way (while I'm sitting here on a curbside literally in tears).

Barely 500 miles on this brand new baby. What on earth is going on with BMW?

Drivetrain malfunction error for me as well. Car only has 1400 miles on it and no hard driving at all yet. Car got taken to dealer this afternoon. This has been one of the worst car purchasing experiences I've had.

Not just an M5 issue

So you know, this isn't an M5 issue; it's a BMW issue. The same thing just happened to me in my 2013 328i at 1280 miles, and the 3-series forum has a thread with a near-identical trail of woefulness. No resolution yet.

Sorry to hear man keep us updated. My pump was replaced at the VDC the first week in October, and I have 2100 miles so far no issues.

Well- my M5 just died.

Looks like a fuel pump issue.

Car will crank and start. But then dies.

I let it sit for about 10 min. Restarted. On the way to BMW mountain view.

So far-

1. Navigation traffic failed- fixed
2. Front camera is dead- waiting for part.
3. Fuel delivery issue.

I don't recall my E60 nor my E39 was that troublesome.

Urghhhhh

Haven't had any issues yet, but what you describe doesn't surprise me. It is a German car.

Until Lexus starts making supercharged V8s, we will have to put up with this shit. But if there was a Lexus GSF engineered to compete at the M5 level, and maybe with some of the sleeker styling of the new IS, I would switch.
