M3/M4 Tech Day Ride along review??
Hi all I never post but I have looked through all the information posted from the tech day for the m3/m4 and unless I'm missing something, where is the review/first impressions of what the M4 felt like during the ride alongs they were giving?
All I've seen is technical information and the BMW drivers giving their spiel as they drive it. Where is the unbiased feedback on how it felt from the reporters that went along for the ride? |

This is something I would be interrested in to hear as well. Subjective comments on for example:
- How did the cars power delivery feel? - How was the ride and body control? - How did the seats feel? - Other interior observations? - How did the exhaust sound? ( We have a comment that it sounded good from the inside ) - What specific BMW colors did it look like, exterior and interior. I ride along should be enough to give useful comments unless attendees were told to keep quite except for the specific data given by BMW. |

Motortrend have some subjective impressions from the ride along.
"As we charged off toward the circuit, I can sense a seamless surge of power all the way through first gear to 7500 rpm, and the engine note is quite racy indeed, the tone a warm bass/baritone that is punctuated by an occasional brrrapp when shifting quickly. " "The carbon-ceramic brakes threaten to detach my retinas, and the car zig-zags through a slalom with very minimal roll." They also say that the MT rev. match is off in "Sport Plus" as it should and a hint that the DCT seems to be the one in the M5. A choice of six-speed manual (with automatic rev-matching in Sport, but not Sport Plus mode) or seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (using the M5/M6's taller gearing) will route all that furious twist to the rear wheels." There is a rather negative 'ride along' review by Greg Kable on Autocar.
Seems the engine sound 'lacks the sheer intensity of the predecessor'. http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/new-c...w-m4-prototype |

Thanks guys, that’s what I was looking for.
Regarding the engine, is it possible that since this m3/m4 and the m5/m6 where developed during the great recession, they used variations of existing powerplants as opposed to building standalone motors like they did on the previous generation? I think I remember from the presser that they would be able to use the same assembly equipment used on the n55. Something that probably mattered to them a great deal during the planning process when the economy was at its worst. |
