328i Country Driving Economy
I'm heading home to Melbourne today from 5 glorious days (mighty hot yesterday but still great) in Echuca. 4 adults a/c on at all times and keeping to maximum legal speed limits, my car's fuel economy has been 6.9l/100km. Not too bad on 99.99% flat roads.
Just turned over 3300kms, so still really running the engine in. One thing I noticed very quickly is the fuel gauge could be much more accurate than it is. At the half way mark on the gauge, I had covered 550kms but the computer tells me 450kms to go. Soon after that, the distance to empty dropped quickly. Still tells me around 930kms on the tankful after almost 800kms covered. No complaints about the economy at this point. Running mostly in Comfort. Eco-Pro does not improve economy on the country trips, even though it claims to. J1n, how did you fare with your car's fuel consumption on your recent trip to Sydney & back? Anyone else able to add their experiences with their 328i? What about all other models as well. Would like to read about diesel economy.

Whether or not EcoPro improves economy will depend on how you've set it up.

Setup for max benefit. It's mainly for city driving. None on hwy over comfort.

Seriously? Sports mode on the hwy. Interesting. Why did you do use it over Comfort? I found at hwy speeds, even Eco-Pro was up to the challenge of hill climbs and quickly reaching max sped limit after crawling at 60km/h through rural towns, once the car was back on cruise control. I used Comfort for overtaking. Never used Sports mode on Hwy.
At what speed does Sports mode change to 8th gear, if it does? Thanks.

I managed about 5.1 from Brisbane to Orange nsw, about 1000kms on just about one tank, I couldn't believe it. That was in Eco mode, definitely makes a difference over that distance.

I was in EP in 8th for hundreds of km and Comfort over similar distance. No difference between them at all. No difference in fuel consumption. EP suits stop start heavy congested traffic.

I've had better range on my highway driving using Eco over Comfort too.

Funnily enough, the way back was an average of 6.1, same road, so might have been the 95 vs 98 octane fuel, elevation, or just the heat (or a combination of them all) Either way, still an amazing result for me |

Depending on the speed of the hwy, i find the fuel comsumption differs a lot. On roads that are 110km/hr i made 740 before reserve and on roads that are 100km/hr it was 860 before reserve
