I Drive startup question?
Has anyone noticed that sometimes the I drive starts up with BMW logo on the screen and sometimes it does not. Also sometimes it starts up and it takes 15 - 20 seconds to load up to the IDrive menu and sometimes it happens instantaneously. Whats that all about?? Does anyone know?

Like David I have only seen the legal thing and it always comes up instantaneously.
I would like to see a BMW start up screen, way cooler than the legal stuff, wish I could turn it off, because now it means nothing, just a reflex iDrive click to get rid of it. I wonder if I sign something in blood and give them my left kidney whether they can arrange this option for me BTW Welcome aboard also.

I've been asking myself exactly the same question: sometimes the "BMW" screen, and 15 second wait, otherwise instantly started. No idea what triggers the "BMW" screen.
I do not have the disclaimer (I guess there is none in European cars. Not that I want one )

I have an NA car, and I too get the BMW startup screen every once in a while. It's most likely a lag in the computer...similar to your home desktop. Someone get me some RAM for my E90!

I get the same thing. I do like the BMW screen, at least it's better than a Microsoft screen

I think it's got to do with whether the car was in "deep sleep mode", "sleep mode" or "standby mode" .... like how long the car has been parked, the drain of the battery ect.

oh oh I got a better one....Has anyone in the US ever started up the car and the I-Drive comes up in German? Sometimes just the warning comes in German, sometimes just the menu screen comes up in German, or sometimes just the whole darn thing is in German.

Sometimes I do get the lag when the BMW appears but it hasn't been that much of a problem for me

I often get a lengthy delay before the BMW logo screen goes away. Sometimes after work I'll get in my car, start it up, put on my seat belt, back out of my space, and head toward the driveway to the street and only then will the legal screen will pop up and the audio will come on just as I'm leaving the parking lot.
It bugs me that the readio doesn't come on as soon as I start the car (like every other car I've ever owned) but it's not a huge deal. |

I seem to have a problem where the screen brightness is darker then it should be. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I decided to time it when I got in my car after work today. 18 seconds. Of nothing but silence and a screen that says "BMW". 18 seconds may not sound like a lot, but that's quite a long time to wait for the radio to start playing after the car has been started.
Again, not a big deal, but a bit annoying nonetheless. |

We get it on ours quite frequently - a 15-20 second lag on the BMW screen before anything happens. That wouldn't be a problem except we have to reverse the car off the driveway, so the PDC screen doesn't appear.. which is pretty useless!

no warning-screen on euro bmw
but if i open car, wait a little, start the car, navi will not show "bmw" splash screen but directly system menu. i will see "bmw" screen only if i open car and immediatly start it (like at morning)

On a side note, does anyone know what the iDrive OS is coded in? I've had a look around one of the software update DVD's and got a sneaky suspiscion it's a variant on HTML, with all of the screen areas being frames... and you knock the controller up/down/left/right to jump into a new frame.... All the car interation bits may be some form of activex control....?
