Go to the Audi forums for that.

I would take a Porsche over any BMW 10/10 times.

I just can't afford the one I want...yet.

That depends. Did you consider used? Personally, I need 4 seats...and I want 4 doors, which restricts my options. I can't justify a spare 2 seat toy in the household.

The new Panamera sounds like the car you need.

I have my eye on a 2017 911 S Cab. #goals

Hmmm...ever driven in Europe? or driven an older car.? My E36 (which I believe is actually a little bit smaller than the M2) will seat 4 people for around town travel as long as someone isn't 6'2"+ requiring that one of the front seats is pushed all the way back. I'm only 5'7" and my wife is 5'3" so the rear seating in my E36 is fine for a couple sub 6' adults.

4 doors really helps...

I should've said "marginally less useless". Anyways, yes I've driven an E36 and E30 for that matter but that was over 20 yrs ago. 4 doors helps of course.

I wonder if the addition of the M coilovers would equal the times? The M2 looks like a 4x4 compared to the Cayman.

Don't fat shame.

I liked the chubster. Funny and dry sense of humor.

Didn't try too hard either. All these guys try too hard imo

Nah. Pcar is too much car.

I'm holding out for this in grey:

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1275460

The question is whether it will ever happen. Otherwise, I suppose an E90M is probably the next best thing, especially with $2.60 gas. MY only other option might be finding an E46 357i. I haven't checked the Frankenboards.

As a previous owner of a 1M and a current owner of a 981 Cayman S (6 cyl model), I can echo a lot of comments made in this thread. The 1M was the more "brutal" raw car that you could have a lot of fun with whereas the Cayman is more a precision driving tool. The torque that the 1M made always put a grin on my face, but revving out the flat 6 to almost 8K RPM is equally pleasurable. I got lots of looks with both cars, but as far as attention goes, I get more with the Cayman than I did with the 1M (not many people knew what it was). If I was forced to choose between the two, I'd probably go with the Cayman - it's really that good.

I think it is wrong to put them "in the same price range". In Sweden, the difference in euros are about 15K, and in USD even more. So an almost fully loaded M2 does not even cost what a base 718 S costs. So yes, it is out of it's league. You very seldom see the A45 or the RS3 being compared to Caymans and Boxters. It is one hell of a four-seater, and a more than "a reasonably priced car", at least in my, and many others, opinion.

They lease for about the same amount if anything the M2 is more expensive to lease

Have you decided on the 718 CS? I know you were back and forth on a few different cars including the M2, 718, etc.. Have you test driven a Cayman yet? I would like to hear your thoughts, especially being an F82 owner.

Just sit back and accept the fact the M2 was beaten and stop trying to come up with excuses and trying to defend it. Oh and the Porsche will definitely get you more pussy than the M2.
Lol well said. BMW fanboys will be BMW fanboys. Hell, I'm one of them but will always give credit where credit's due. The Porsche gets my nod on this one, no question. Give it up fanboys, your entry level M-car (as brilliant as it is for the money) just lost here. Suck it up.

Every time I see a "comparison" thread I see so many comments on how it is an unfair comparison. I really want to know, what is a fair comparison to the M2??? I don't think I have seen one yet!!!

I haven't test driven a cayman yet but I did get to test drive a 718 Boxster S for one lap around Sonoma raceway. It felt awesome a LOT more agile than the M4 and the 4 cyl felt great, I really enjoyed the fact that you can rev it all the way to rev line. Prior to getting in the car I was worried it would feel like an "overboosted" car. Noise was not an issue on the track either and the car did not have sport exhaust.

The only downsides could be the size. I wonder how comfortable it will be on 5-6 hour road trips. But that's a small problem.

I'll have to test drive a Cayman S once they hit dealer floors to make my final verdict. But if the numbers are right I might pull the trigger.

Otherwise I think I might downsize and lease an M240 with some small mods to drive around. The reason for this would be to get closer to my ultimate goal of owning a GT3

We'll see

M2 is indeed a very capable car. i love this bmw and mine will arrive in a month. nevertheless, it is in the same class as 718s despite the price difference cuz 718 is a porsche. 718 is overall a better car besides the lack of backseats and engine sound. it is even more comfortable than the m2 imo.

we all love our bmw's but there is no need for bitter talks when something else better is out there. it is still an awesome car, rah!?

Nice, thank you for taking the time to respond. I really like my M2, but I can't help but to think what it would be like to own a Porsche. I really like the 981 and 718 much better than the previous generations from a styling standpoint. I'm thinking that a P-Car may be in my future as well, but probably a few more years down the line. I agree, GT3 is something to strive for and don't give up that goal!

Strange, because every time I visit a Porsche dealership, I have to sleep on the couch for a week. The P-car badge is like pussy repellant in my household.

Or were you referring to the basic ass gold diggers who chase name badges on cars thinking that they've landed a meal ticket, only to find out that they've bagged a wannabe, part-time DJ with a DTI that looks something like a rear axle ratio.

Two things stopped me from looking at the 718s:

1. Money - To equip a base cayman s similar to the M2 would require an extra 10k in options making it nearly $80k out the door if not more. I paid $56k for my 6mt M2 w/ exec.
2. Motor - I know its a great motor but its still a 4 cyl turbo not the iconic 6. If price was closer I could probably live with it.

As a former 981 CGTS, E46 M3, E92 M3, E82 1M owner and currently driving the F87 M2 I would say the P car is on a higher level for building quality, road compliance, brakes, however on initial steering input I do like the M2 over the CGTS.
Now for the 718 series (I`ve tesdriven both, S and non S) the steering rack has been made 10% quicker by Porsche, that is more to my liking.
The 4 cilinder sound can not match its 6 F 981 brother, nor the 6IL M2`s. Overall speaking the 718 series are far more better DD than the 981 series, they are seriously quicker also, not far of (2 sec slower NS) the GT4 NS time.

Also I do like the PDK over the M-DCT, but that is personal taste I reckon.

The Porsche is more bullet proof, of course you`ll have to pay for that. The M2 is a relative bargain, most bang for the buck IMO.

My garage would be a M2 besides a 718 GT4/GTS......the perfect picture to me
