Map updates

According to the "demo" G5 manual available on the BMW Driver's Guide App, there is such a thing as Automatic Map Updates for vehicles with certain equipment and in certain countries. It's supposedly transmitted online several times a year.

Can anyone confirm this is the case for the G05, and if so which equipment and which country versions are necessary?

Per the dealer training, I know the US will have over the air map updates (for all X5s since Nav is standard). I don’t know about other countries.

This may only be applicable to NA, or even US, but here's a little info.

On the G01 X3, auto updates haven't been working that well. Don't expect much will change with the G05.

I think the big difference is the X5 is the first to get the cloud based iDrive 7.0. That will allow for much easier updates to the software and map data. The X3 doesn’t yet have iDrive 7.0.
