OP, how can we answer your question if we don't know this "extraordinary" number you can buy the car for? Leases in 2011 we fluffed pretty heavy with inflated residuals so I doubt you can accomplish what you are trying to do. On another note, why in the hell would you modify a 3-year lease?

^ Everything is easily reversible.

You guys are great at taking the wind out of my sails I guess that's what I should expect from the internet.

I'd have to sell it in the $30's in order for it to be worth it for me vs demodding and selling the mods off for what they're worth. After cruising autotrader and cars.com and seeing cars at dealerships asking $35-$37 I got excited. If I could get $32 it would be worth it but all the haters who got theirs in the high $20's are making me think it's not worth it.

I'm wondering how many of those high $20k CPO cars are actually 6MT M-Sport coupes with Nav. M-Sport and Nav are ~$5,000 on a new car sticker, and CPO adds another maybe $2,000.

kbb is your best friend.

I had fbo and dealer gm wanted my car as is so i got 28k....2011 335xi with 49k miles: alpine white, coral red interior full loaded and fbo - if that gives you an idea.

that said i got a great deal on my current car. i took the 335xi in for a car wash and left with a 2013 135 fully loaded with 5,800 miles

From what I could tell when looking for my car for about 3 months, I think the nice cars offered by dealers in the $35-38k range are purchased by uneducated people or people with no time to actually shop around. This excludes garage queen 335's in near new condition. I would put those kind of numbers out of your mind. The people buying from private parties are a lot more cost conscious and will expect something more like $28k-32k. Without too much thought about it, I don't think there is any way you'd have to settle for less than $30k because your car is rare and you live in a big city with a large pool of buyers.

The thing is that for people who must have an M-Sport car, that pkg is worth something. But the majority of the population doesn't even know what it is and doesn't care. And to them it is worth $0. But I bet there are at least a couple of people in a city the size of Chicago looking for a car exactly like yours and the number of cars filling the bill is about nill. So you're probably going to have a fairly easy time selling it for low $30's. Maybe end up at $32k. It is still summer and now is a good time to be selling a 2 door coupe. Good luck!

I think there should be demand. For those who find $44k too much for an M235i, a used 335i is much cheaper alternative. Considering all the aftermarket parts that are available, its a great platform.

KBB says $31,500 private party and $33,300 fair purchase price. That's for a NON certified car. I guess that might be worth it.

Yeah that's totally a reason to get a vert.
A thousand or two in resale means nothing imo vs 350+ lbs in the ass end and not being able to track it.

That's the beauty of having different trim lines in every car make and model- we all have our reasons for buying what we did.

The truth of the matter is, hardtops have - and always will - retain the highest resale value out of all the three series models.

Besides if we wanted to retain the most resale value in a car, we sure as hell bought the wrong brand!

Alas, I may have drifted off topic.

Wasn't it question of what's in demand? I guess this answer would vary as much as the different areas across this great world of ours.

Convertibles tend to sell like hotcakes in primarily warm areas, and I'm sure their demand would plummet in places like the great White North...or Siberia perhaps.

Just picked up a 2011 335i M-sport CPO with 44k miles from a dealer for $26.9k this weekend. I've been watching prices for the last two months and most dealers still have similar cars in the $30-32k range.

It is CPO. I didn't really have time to haggle, and it took me 2 weeks to find one that met all my search criteria. I only had 2 days left on my rental from wrecking my E46, had to make a decision quick haha. Its a little high, but the car was immaculate.

Makes sense, yeah I had to look for a long time to find the right one and haggled a bit to get them down but I was in no hurry.
If you dont have the time to just walk away you lose a lot of bargaining power.
As long as you are happy with it, its all good!

Wow thats pretty low! Sell it private party and get a lot more. Is it not CPO?
CPO is worth a lot IMO for all the random stuff that goes wrong with these cars.

You bought a car that's practically brand new and costs about $60k new (loaded) for damn near half the price and you think that is expensive?

I bough mine with like 24k miles, fully loaded x-drive minus m-sport for $33k out the door and I was looking at it as a steal.
