Resonator delete question.
Newbie here with a question
I interested in getting a little bit of more growl in my car without spending thousands of dollars. I've heard the resonator delete is an alternative to the expensive mid pipes some manufacturers offer. With that being said, is there any risks by removing the resonators? Thanks in advance. |

your best bet for a good sound is either a catless downpipe with stock exhaust or to upgrade your muffler to something that flows better. |

If your car has the 6MT, I'd suggest keeping the resonators. I have the AWE catback, and at 80mph on the highway, I'm nearly at 3k RPMs. In sport mode with the active sound pumping engine sound through the speakers + my catback, it's not the greatest highway cruiser. Around town however, no drone as i'm typically below 2k.

You should do it. I had both my resonators taken out on Saturday and man does the car sound so much meaner now. The car burbles a lot more and I've heard some popping on aggressive downshifts. Drone isn't bad as well. Driving around in the city you can hear more of the exhaust but on the highway the drone is barely noticeable. One thing that is bugging me is that cold starts are crazy loud for my tastes. This may be because I did the golf tee mod when I first got the car. I've only started it cold in my garage but I'm going to see how loud it is in the open when leaving work tomorrow.

Oh, that's probably it. The second on the midpipe is a cat? Excuse my ignorance please, i'm trying to figure out the best route to get a little bit more growl out of the exhaust.

Or, what I would recommend you do if you're looking to delete the resonator and 2nd cat is just bite the bullet and buy dinans midpipes. They're 3.25" straight pipe all the way through. And are better when returning the lease or selling/trading in the car. You could just put your stock midpipes in and sell the aftermarket ones. Aftermarket axle back mufflers are extremely overpriced in my opinion. I have a full catback with nothing but a small muffler before the right exit tip. I love it, and drone is minimal. However, I rarely cruise at a constant speed over 80mph.

I'm led to believe that its a resonator. Although I'm not 100% because I have not taken it off and looked. Ive heard both arguments multiple times on this forum though.

And risking blow something up? Nah, I think i'll be alright with just a little noise and keep my warranty. Not ready to pay to play yet.
