My first is my 2013 335i E92 M Sport

Had it for just over a month, I love it! So far so good.

However, it is second hand and fast approaching 60K miles, I hear things can sometimes get expensive at this bit... so I'm slightly nervous

Hopefully I'll get lucky!

My First BMW

My first was a 2005 E46 330i Msport. I owned her for 19 years, then sold her with only 74,000 miles on the clock. Was a little hesitant about the Imola red color, but everyone loved that car! I ran an ad online and she was sold within 24 hours. Now I drive a 2016 640i Gran Coupe.

My first BMW wasn't even mine. But now I'm on my 4th.

Long story short, my son (oldest child) and daughter (third-oldest) moved in with my family when their mother moved back to her hometown. They were both in college and planned to use my old truck to get around; my daughter also worked part time. My daughter, being a new driver, wasn't comfortable driving a big old GMC truck, so my son would drop her off and pick her up later, both school and work. That idea was great until my son was in class and she needed a ride somewhere. That's when I had to make a decision.

I wanted to get smaller vehicle that my son and daughter can share that also won't suck up their small gas budget. At least, that was the idea going in. I had a fairly limited budget, so I didn't want to go too crazy. But at the same time, I wanted something reliable for my children. I didn't want to consider the usual go-to Accord, Camry, Civic, or Corolla. Being from an Asian family, everybody and their uncle had one (or more, or all) of those cars, literally. I considered that the only other vehicle within my budget and that I was familiar with was the Altima. We test-drove two Altimas and both were in nice condition both mechanically and physically. The only problem is they didn't drive up to my standards. My daily was a newer GMC Sierra 1500 (more on that later). We looked in the lot for something decent within my price range, and ultimately decided on a 2015 328i.

We brought the 328i home, and the idea was my children were supposed to share the F30. My daughter being the younger of the two, had both college and work and my son had mostly online courses, she basically treated the car as her own. LOL! My son eventually resorted to basically borrowing the car from his sister whenever he needed the car, or just having her drive him in turn.

Thinking of how underprivileged I was at his age, I felt compassion for him. (Really, I pitied my younger self.) I started my research and looked for another car that he can call his. I had an even more limited budget at this point in time, but I wanted something equivalent in quality and stature as the F30. This time, I was focused on a bigger BMW since my son said the F30 felt too small for him. Miraculously I stumbled upon an affordable 2008 528i, took a look at it, and it became my son's car, but my second BMW.

Sorry for the long-winded narrative, but hope you guys made it this far in my story.

Earlier I mentioned that I drove a newer GMC Sierra 1500. The truck treated me well and my fuel mileage was decent for a full-sized truck with a V8. But every time I drove either of the BMWs, the drive reminded me how much of a truck my truck was. Of course it was. It was a truck and hard to park in tight spaces. The other issue was I didn't utilize it as a truck. Whenever I needed to haul something, I used my older truck; whenever I needed to go offroading, I used my older truck. I treated my newer GMC as a vehicle while paying commercial DMV registration prices. That entire scenario had me thinking, perhaps I can ... or rather, should trade my truck in for a luxury car, a BMW! But which one? I researched, searched, and found a nicely optioned 2016 535i M Performance. I did an online trade evaluation for my truck and they offered me a decent amount -- it gave me $1000 equity even. Thus, I pulled the trigger; I took my GMC in and traded it in for the 535i. The 535i treated me good, all the way up to last month when it got totalled in an accident. The damage wasn't much, but due to the high cost of BMW parts, the repair costs exceeded the insurance's threshold for declaring a total loss.

While waiting for the insurance company's final word on my claim, I knew they were leaning towards a total loss due to the initial repair estimate, and so I started looking for a replacement 535i. I liked the car a lot and wanted another 535i with the same options. I searched again for a viable car, but couldn't find any optioned the same way. I also considered upgrading to a 550i, since they usually were better equipped to start. In finalizing my decision on a 535i or 550i, I found a 550i at a small used car dealership and drove it. It felt heavy even though it did feel more torquey, at least on my butt-dyno. Afterwards, we decided to make our way to the local BMW dealership anyway, since they had a couple 535i's on the lot, albeit not preferably optioned. When we got there, a happy salesman came out, and I told him there was a particular 535i I wanted to look at and drive. While he went to find the key and the car (They had moved the car since someone else made an appointment to see it already.), we walked around the lot and a 2014 M6 GC caught my eye. Needless to say, he found the 535i and keys, we drove it, came back and drove the M6; I ended up making the M6 my 4th BMW.

Sorry for the wall of text, but hope you guys made it to the end.
