The carbon filter does not need to be removed. I left mine in place. I did notice a performance boost, although it is disappointing that the air filter element is the same size as stock!

Where is the carbon element? I think I would prefer to get it out of there and get the max airflow possible. There are some threads about people deleting the carbon portion.

Intake changes the engine noise. I put my intake on before my exhaust and i didnt even notice a noise difference till about 4k. the exhaust + the intake is glorious. it turns heads for sure.

I also have the performance intake, noticed an improvement in sound at the upper rpm's, actually sounded nice. Subtle, but nice. Then I put on the performance exhaust, and that completely drowned out the intake. Oh well, muffler sure sounds sweet!
