I can answer this question...
my 19" non RFTs give more comfortable ride + better grip than the factory 18" RFTs

Have you put FAKE M5 wheels on your car? As the current M5 wheels are ONLY available in 19"s not 18"s, if so that is so NOT cool.

I'm cool with people swapping them for BBS wheels or other ones, but imitation BMW rims, is the ultimate insult. In my opinion it's as bad as some of those cars in the Ultimate BMW disasters thread.

Each to their own I say. IMO the insult is when you discover the same manufacture has made both the labled BMW wheel and the non labled one and you paid $3000 through BMW as opposed to $1000 outside.
Like everything it comes down to buyer bewere. There is no need to snob something that someone else is proud off. Enougth said. |

Own person's choice what one wants on their car. As long as I like mine!

Yep. I think the end of this thread is akin to how someone who owns a real Rolex watch feels when they see someone with an imitation that most people can't tell is an imitation. (I'm not in that group I should add).
Depends on whether you are the sort of person who buys a Rolex (BMW) for image or because you just enjoy it, and don't care what others think. |

BMW manufacture M5 wheels in 18" size
here when you order 530,540,550 with M-package, you can get 18" M5 wheels with it...

Hi,
I am sorry i had trouble getting the pictures to upload. Will try again tonight. As for the ride, it is much better and seems to turn in alot sharper. The replica M5 wheels are 18'', And as lots of other people in the States and other places in the world have changed to this size and design it is hardly being a FAKE. I feel it is one of the best designs BMW have for wheels and I also believe it is a compliment to that. My car, my choice, Also not many after market wheels sold here look good on the car. |

I'd like to get back to the topic on this one as I'm interested as to people's experiences with moving off of RFTs.
Anyone else got their experience to share? I know the answers are subjective but if people can try to articulate the feeling I'd be grateful, as "it feels better" doesn't tell me too much. |

I second what James has said about geting a more diffinitive response. The way I see it is that we all know that run flats have stiffer sidewalls but the handling from the Potenza'a are fantastic. Do they make the car bumpier - maybe but probably not that much. Do they wear faster - I'd say not but wear also comes down to your driving style. They have a wear rating of 140 which is as good as it gets for a performance tyre.
My argument to stay with run flats or go to conventionals will be on a price / performance ratio. If a comparitive performance conventional tyre is only going to save me 10 - 15% then I'd stick to the RFT for the convieniance in the event of a flat. Of cause, I'm very interested in your experiance as I'll weigh it all up when te time comes to replace. Don't forget, as tyres wear, they will be even more bumpy and less grippy than new so you need to factor this into your opinion. If you are comparing worn RFT to new conventionals then it's a no brainer which one is going to be better. |

Yes, to me it is the cost vs comfort. I'm not overly fussed about higher end performance as I would rarely use it day to day. Ride quality is important but the cost is my biggest thing - not because I can't afford $500 per tyre but moreso because I just don't think it is worth paying 40 or 50% more for a tyre for the benefit of having an RFT. As VGR has said, if the difference in cost is 10-15%, then for me it comes down to comfort. Maybe one day I'll do a ring around to compare prices.
