quick 325xi review

Went to dealership to test drive the 325xi. Car was auto with pp. Luckily it had snowed this week and there was still some water and snow on the roads. Not sure if it was the xDrive or just that the roads "weren't that bad" but I didn't feel any wheels slipping once.

The car is pretty quick. I definitely liked the power and the feel. I was weaving through traffic easily and flooring it seemed natural. It also has very good traction and cornering with minimal body roll.

The steptronic seems to accel a whole lot faster than when in Drive mode. Got on the hwy only for a mile or so and getting to 80 mph was easy. Right before my exit, I floored it to ~95 mph to pass some slow cars. 215 hp seems very adequate and the torque felt good also - tomorrow I test the 330!

So far, my one question is the engine noise. Has anyone noticed how loud this can get when revving between 5-7k rpm? I thought it was unusually loud compared to my e34 525i, but maybe it's because it is more powerful. Any thoughts on this one guys?

Thanks a lot!! Will be back with my 330i review tomorrow

Honestly, I test drove both the 325i and xi back to back in regular driving conditions. I could not tell the difference between the two, but when I test drove the 330xi, I could tell it definitely had more power. Let me know what you think of the 330xi when you test drive it. As far as the loud engine noise that you noticed, I thought it was within normal limits.

For me, I ordered the 330xi b/c it turned out to be a better value. When I added 17" rims, xenon, power seats, and logic 7 to the 325xi it ended up better for me to just get the 330xi without any options. All the things I wanted in the 325 was standard on the 330 plus extra power.

No, he really didn't. I could buy a 330 if I wanted one. However, he is stuck for life with his tiny penis.

In that case M3 owners must really be under-endowed

Interesting Nuwde, the 5-7k rpm is apparent, but it's a part of the band that doesn't get used unless you're passing some slowpoke or having fun from a spot sign in the country. The rest of the time I find my 325xi luxurious, sporty, safe as hell too.

I went for a spin tonight. The back roads are all messy. Slush, snow, ice, pavement and in some places snowdrifts that you see only at the last minute. Of course, I tempered my speed, not wanting to end up in the river, but I enjoy not having one side of the car yanked over when I hit a puddle or snow on one side. The xDrive takes care of that.

Oh, and buying a 325xi with just a few of the options I wanted (and NOT getting a whole bunch I don't want) not only saved me about 10k, it goes to show that I am extremely well hung. Chicks dig that as well as my wedding ring.
