Nope, they're optional. And as they're not incredibly great, you may want to keep them as backups and run a search on the forums to locate some you'd rather use every day.

Ha, yeah, right. Just another way every car company tries to nickel and dime you until the very end.

This is classic. I got a new E39 in 1999, and the dealer laughed at me when I asked if floor mats came with the car. "Of course floor mats come standard on a car like this!" they said in disgust.

What a difference nine years makes.....

Can someone please advise on the best place to get the BMW standard floor mats for the E90 (LCI)? Are these pretty much the same price at every dealer, or is there a place where was can order them at a discount?

Also, please tell me that the E9x comes with the pegs or locks on the floor so that the floor mats can be secured.

I had a B5.5 Passat, and while the front carpets (which were included) came with great snaps, but the rear carpets did not. For the rears, VW had some pegs that you would screw into the original floor carpet of the car - these were cheesy and did not work. I'm hoping the E90 has some kind of permanent locking mechanism pre-installed.

(I still can't believe that floor carpets are an option on 3-series, when they come standard on Honda minivans....)

They floormats usually get thrown in as a deal sweetener at the end of the transaction. I know that my dealer tried to tell me that they were extra, and then acted like they were doing me a huge favor by "throwing them in". Kinda bs...but whatever.

Tischer, probably, although it's a little early to be looking for MY09 LCI floormats. I doubt whether anyone knows if they're different from the pre-LCI type (but may very well be).

If you're not set on OEM, you might like these:
http://www.weathertech.com/store/mvp...1254&Year=2008

or take a look at the wide selection at Bavarian Autosport.

If you do European Delivery, they throw in floor mats. I picked my car up at the Welt center, and it had floor mats. (There was never any mention of mats prior to this.)

I'm sure dealers act like they're doing you a favor... but if you run into one that actually charges you for them, go somewhere else.

Even better, I brought my ED floormats home with me, and the dealer is throwing in another set when the car arrives

I was going to ask about the ED and floormats. I'm picking up my E90 in October and suspect I'll be needing the mats that time of year in Deutschland. Based on you and Dah, sounds like it's a standard deal with delivery at the Welt.

Congrats, it's an amazing experience. Good thing you're going in October, cause once winter rolls around you'll have to worry about tires over there.

Thanks, Mr. Steak. Living in Colorado where the roads are in universally crappy shape, I opted not to go for the Performance Pkg (or the "I Bent Another Rim/Blew a Damned Runflat Sidewall in a Pothole" Pkg), so I figure with the xDrive and M+S tires, I'll be in good shape to cross the Alps even if we get a freak Oct. storm. Very stoked about the whole thing.

You are also going to get a Warning Triangle (to set up at the side of the road if you break down) and a First Aid Kit. These are required by German law.

I did an ED 9 years ago. The trick was to make sure that you take the Triangle and Kit out of the car before dropping it off in Europe. Take them home with you on the plane. Otherwise they get removed at the port facility.

They clearly know how to do driving right (and safely) in the Eurozone.

Yeah, I left a leather CD case in the car, and they took the CDs out of it, but left the case. Then they took the LED flashlight that came with the car, and left the triangle. And they also left the rear German license plate in the trunk. So I think I came out ahead of the game.

Forgot about the flashlight - I removed that and carried it home with me, and they replaced it during transit. (So I ended up having two - one as a backup. I do have to say that it was a pretty useless flashlight, though...)

Moral of the story is: anything in the car at ED that you want to keep, remove it from the car and fly home with it!

Note that both the manuals and the manual case that came with my ED E39 were 100 times better than the junk that comes as standard US-issue. Make sure you keep those. My jaw dropped when I picked up my car in the US and saw the garbage that they give us here (at least back in 1999). (I even still kept that old Euro E39 manual case to use with my upcoming E90!)

So you're saying you should bring an extra carry-on bag to Munich.

Yes! Also, keep in mind that any BMW parts that you want for your car that are not available in the US could be purchased there (at least at the old delivery center, which was actually a huge dealership) and also carried home. At the time I carried home a white blinker set, non-smoker's package, non-aspherical mirrors, M5 grill, and a few other items....

Anything you change on the car, however, will get changed back at the VPC in the US, so DON'T install anything in the car. Ten years ago there were a few stories of trunk CD changers being installed in Germany and not being there upon US arrival. At the time the E39 came with an in-dash cassette on the US models, but the Euro models could be had with an in-dash CD. Someone had the retrofit done in Germany, but when the car arrived in the US the VPC had swapped it back with the cassette!

It is hard to believe that it doesn't come with floor mats..
But when I asked my CA if the car came with carpet mats, he answered no.
I also looked at the website for accessories and it only shows all weather floor mats. He then ended up throwing in carpet mats and all weather floor mats...
Aren't carpet mats suppose to be standard at least!?
