1200 mile service done, but Launch Control still inactive
Just got my car back from its 1200 mile service. I asked the SA if Launch Control (LC) was activated and he said that was taken care of when they did the pre-delivery checklist. hm... I doubt that but hey I'm not a service tech that should know what he is doing. I have been trying several times but I can't for the life of me get the LC to work. I disabled MDM/TC, select S1, 3 bars for sequential, step on brake and mash the accelerator. I'm able to peel off but car doesn't shift itself into 2 nor do I see the LC flag anywhere. Did the tech fail to reset the computer to enable LC properly or am I doing it all wrong? In my E92 M3 the LC flag would appear before you even step on the accelerator.
Hey BMW here's a tip - just incorporate an LC button that configures everything for the driver so that all he has to do is mash on the accelerator! |

They have a detailed breakdown on how to do it on the manual stored in the car. I kept trying the way I did it on the m5. Now its:
1. drive till warm 2. traction off /s3 4. Brake with left foot+ mash on gas pedal which will now trigger the flag 5. set launch rpm with cruise control 6. Dont die |

The process he is using is described in his post and it's nothing like the E9x M3.
OP, in the past LC was not necessarily active immediately after the 1200 mile service was complete. For the E9x M3, for example, it would often take until about 1250 miles. The F8x may be similar. How many miles do you have on the car now? |

That won't work - you have to have the transmission in the S3 setting.

Except that the process is nothing like the E9x M3, and it is also different from the F1x M5/M6. If you read the manual you'd know that. Quote:

From the Owner's Manual:
Activate Launch Control Launch Control is available when the engine is warmed up, that is, after uninterrupted driving of at least 6 miles/10 km. 1. Deactivate Dynamic Stability Control, refer to page 112. 2. Select Sequential mode with driving program 3. 3. With the engine running, apply the brake with the left foot. 4. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. The starting engine speed adjusts. A flag symbol appears in the instrument cluster. 5. If necessary, change the starting engine speed by 500 rpm via cruise control. 6. Release the brake, the vehicle accelerates. Continue to depress the accelerator pedal. Upshifting occurs automatically as long as the accelerator pedal is fully depressed. Hints Launch Control is available only after a certain distance has been driven. Did not use Launch Control during the break-in, refer to page 152, period. To maintain driving stability, always activate DSC if possible. I can't get the flag to appear and I've given up. Every time I attempt LC I feel like I'm messing up the engine by redlining it. |

Bounces off of redline instead of holding at 3K as expected. I tried both M1 w/DSC off and just DSC off. It's not a big deal. LC is something I probably won't use anyway.

Seems strange. How many miles are on your car and did you drive it for over 6 miles prior to attempting LC?

Maybe if you were already in S3 or had DSC off it doesn't compute that you want LC - maybe you have to change both settings one after the other before applying the brake and flooring the accelerator? It's a long shot but worth a try.

OK I may not have been pressing the accelerator pedal down fast enough previously which allowed the revs to build up to redline. This time I immediately floored the pedal as far as it would go and it did hold at approx. 3.5K rpm but the LC flag still did not appear. I honestly think that LC is not activated. Someday I'll get it activated and working.

According to an F80/F82 training manual that was posted here, LC will not work unless the 2000km maintenance has been completed with "reset/confirmed with the Integrated Service Technical Application (ISTA) (do not reset via the instrument cluster service function, as otherwise the launch control is not enabled)."
The first thing I would do is check with the dealer. |

How was the launch now that you got it to work? LC has been very effective when I've used it.

For those of you that still cannot get LC to work after the 1200 mile service:
Read this thread: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...85732&posted=1 As Savaho eluded to in his first post it does indeed look like service tech error could be to blame. Worth checking if your service history is now on I drive as well.
