Model wise good move, platform wise stupid move.
BMW should keep the RWD platform with AWD option as a replacement for the legendary E46. I cannot believe that nobody in the BMW structure can see the things differently: "Hey, we should not compete with Mercedes or Audi FWD entrance models. Let's make a smaller 3 series with a RWD platform and AWD option, a vehicle that will put our legacy back on track and bring the smiles back on customer's face." What an opportunity to blow in a different direction with quite some benefits. Many will jump on a such vehicle leaving Mercedes and Audi in the rear view mirror since the driving experience will be better. I don't think that it will take customers from 3 series. Who doesn't want a 3 series doesn't want a 3 Series. and if the 2 series becomes the main seller what is wrong with that? better sell a 240i RWD GC than have the customer leaving the brand. So many voices craving for a E46 revival, and nobody is listening. How dumb is that? This is a sheep attitude and I blame them for it. if I will have the chance to work for BMW I will have some very gutsy moves but I can guarantee success and profits; and a proper image rehabilitation. A GC RWD/AWD will be a wise and popular choice for so many. |

If only it was RWD based, it would've been the first new BMW in years I'd actually pony up for. What a huge opportunity missed by BMW putting it on the FWD platform, are they even trying anymore? :
They've gone full retard. If I want a FWD based small sedan I'd buy a goddamn Audi. I don't need or want a shittier Audi knockoff.

Sometimes there are good things underneath, and others....well that's what I was getting at!

The interiors of comparable Audis and Mercs are typically better...so if you have the same drivetrain option as them now, why do people buy the product again???

Check out this image painted in vantablack https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/15/world...ial/index.html While that's not a material that BMW uses (that I am aware of!) .. the image in the story above begs the question.. how can you accurately judge what you are seeing when you can't see what you are judging? |

Theoretically the idea is correct but the 6 series is kinda a weird one because it fits in between the 5 and the 7 which I get. As a coupè. But to make it a Gran Coupè is kinda weird imo. It's like buying a CLS550 instead of buying an E550 or an S550 Mercedes.

Anyway, yes, it is very similar to the CLS as compared to the S Class. So that's the answer you are looking for. The reason BMW has created these products (four or five door "coupes") is because their competitors did it first and had success. In order to try to keep pace in sales, they had to come up with an answer. |

Maybe - if 6MT available
I'd order a RWD 2GC 6MT in a heartbeat (meaning today). FWD - never. AWD - maybe.
Hopefully they fix the offset steering wheel. I had a 228i convertible loaner and the seat was noticeably offset. Same problem in the X2 I sat in at the car show last week. My M2 doesn't have the offset problem. One thing I don't hear mentioned in the posts above is car length. My E46 fits in my garage perfectly as does my M2. The current 3-series doesn't fit so I don't have a BMW four-door sedan option. The X2 does fit but I'm not a SUV fan. For me, the magic length is 180 inches - nothing longer than that works for me. There aren't many interesting four-door sedans that will fit in my garage: Civic R-Type, Golf R and Audi RS3 is about it. |
