B58 engine whine low RPMs. Paranoid or valid concern?
I know there's a ton of threads about various whining noises but none of them have led me to a concrete answer.
I have a (very new to me) 2017 440xi I noticed that in low gear and low rpm/load that I'd have a faint whine changing pitch to engine RPM. I tried to replicate in neutral today and same issue so it's definitely coming from the engine. I can only hear it until 3k rpm and very low load. It's most noticable on decel where there's very little engine noise. I took a video but it's pretty hard to hear, definitely a lot more obvious sitting in the car. Do you guys think it's something I should be concerned about? Thanks. https://youtu.be/ZvtphGKLFTY |

Sorry to bring this topic back up again but my 2016 440i rwd AT does have exactly the same noise. I don't think its the transmission because I'm hearing it also when I put the car in Drive and hold the brakes and give it some throttle. So the car doesn't move forward.
It worse when cold and gets a little bit more quite when the engine is hot. I hear it only in the low RPM range, also while driving. I'm owner of the car since 2 years and its been there since I have the car. But it definitely became louder over these 2 years. Did you ever find the cause? |
