F80/F82 Exhaust Sound
I absolutely love it. It's different. Sounds pungent, nasty, and raspy when needed.
Gives me goosebumps every time I hear the lift off the throttle. |

I don't think it sounds bad at all. I didn't purchase any of my M3's because of their exhaust notes, so I'm already in the minority of what seems to be a large group of 'exhaustistas'.

I think it's the engine sound that most people are not happy with which BMW already stated they will make it louder... I like the sound so far and here is another video (fist and second one) of how the car sounds from inside:

However, I have driven a 335i with the m performance exhaust and it sounded good. Not flatulent, but tight and urgent. Nasty. I would expect even better from the new configuration. |

My least favorite part of the car from what we know this far. I know it's just a video but it's a pro video and compared to videos of car exhausts I like it doesn't make me jump up and down. Next topic...

Sounds like a cheap civic fartcan. Nothing performance or sporty about it.

is pretty much the same setup but on a E92. ( mufflers only). and when you take things more with the exhaust. its a complete monster. This is straight up race car sound. Last edited by mikelowery; 01-18-2014 at 12:12 AM.. |

Thanks guys...I tried to be more positive about it but to hell with that, there is no comparison, none. But we knew that already, it's my least favorite part but not a deal breaker. I'll sure miss that wail though and smile in sweet nostalgia every time I hear one of those or just turn my stereo to 11 and enjoy my active sound

I6s sound the best compared to that small crossplane V8... Never was a fan of the sound. Annoying to say the least. From a cold start to the soft power delivery irl....If you hear a C63 engine or even a Vette engine you know what I mean.
New twinturbo 6 engine sounds allright to me. CSL was the best sounding BMW engine from the last decade. Period. Cheers Robin |

Not sure how this sounds any different than a 335. It is hard to tell from one video, but if this is the video BMW picked to showcase the car (and exhaust) then I am worried. I actually like the sound of the inline 6. It screams. That's great. The exhaust note however is very subdued. This doe snot strike me as a performance car. The 335 with an M performance exhaust sounds MUCH better.
The cynic in me says it won't really matter anymore, since you're getting sounds piped into the cabin anyway through the speakers. The conspiracy theorist says this is part of BMW's plan to sell more aftermarket f80 exhaust. The reasonable guy says it might be better in real life. The enthusiast says this sucks! |

Too bad BMW hasn't given auto journalists a track day introduction to the cars a la Marbella Ascari circuit in July 2007. Had such an event been held, we would have assorted comments from third parties that would probably have given us useful information on the exhaust note/engine sound. So here we are...wondering.

I sure hope it sounds much better in person. I'm 99% sure I'm going to buy one and it would be embarrassing to drive a $75K car that sounds like a cheap ricer that some high school dropout put pipes on. Ick.
If it does sound that bad I would have to upgrade the exhaust as soon as someone builds one for it. The posted video of the Meisterschaft catback - now THAT sounds like a machine that I want! |

Exhaust and more importantly the engine note is a deal breaker for me. I lease my cars and dont mod them so to me the oem package is what matters. That car in its current form sounds horrendous.
