Cosmoline?

I found this warm odorless grease like substance around the engine bay of my car. At first glance I think it's cosmoline. I found it under the edges of my hood and over the top radiator shroud and of course in the driver side wheel well. Wanted to know if this is normal for a MY2021 M2 with 3,000 miles on it.

I have something extremely similar on my 2018. I did some searching and found other owners with the exact same stuff in the same locations.

I dont think its cosmoline but i think its a similar substance that they coat some parts of the car with for their salty voyage across the ocean.

I dont think its anything to worry about.

I had a bunch of goop in that area and it turned out to be the ppf residue from film I'd just had installed. Shouldn't be any cosmoline up in that area.

That makes sense! PPF was applied to the car not too long ago. For context it was a 103 degrees yesterday when I used the car to run some errands. Probably some of the residue melted.

Well from the looks of. I don’t think it’s anything serious then. I’ll keep on observing it for the next few weeks. Just wiped off the excess gunk and we will see what happens.

I took a look at my engine bay today and saw that greasy substance. It was only coming out the openings of my hood openings. I wonder if that might be the main source. At least in my car

Yes, it's cosmoline, and yes, they put it everywhere.
