Replace head unit

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Got a call from my service advisor out of the blue saying they he got notified from BMW NA to replace my head unit... He didn't know why and has reached out to them to figure it out.

Anyone else need to get their head unit replaced? Know why?

Do you know what he meant by "head unit?" Like the nav screen?

I had head unit replaced on my 540. Once they replaced it, all my problems went away. If you're have computer glitches, this may be best thing to happen to you. You are going to have to re register satellite radio, do not pay the activation fee.

The computer running the system. Nav screen doesn't get touched.

Do you know where that is? As in does the dash have to be taken apart or is it accessible somewhere?

Might be the COMBI box... I was told that if the software update they're going to apply next week doesn't fix some software issues (when the BC button stops working to switch the right tach and you lose media and NAV data in the HUD) then as part of the service bulletin they are to replace the COMBI.

Yeah not sure. I'll find out more next week... He said it was "behind the nav screen"... I hope I don't end up with more problems after they take everything apart...

I'm on version 49. Really only having issues with Apple Carplay (less after new iOS update, but still some drops), known minor comfort access glitches, and all my collision avoidance systems not warning me. Everything else seems to working well.

Cautiously optimistic.

Under the dash. It was an all day job plus reprogram but well worth it. It fixed all my problems. The top dash comes off and they get to unit that way. I have 540, I assume same in x5

My 540 kept screen kept rebooting, radio stations memory wouldn't hold, ac settings would change to 72 every time i got in car. New head unit fixed all of that.

Just dropped off for the head unit replacement. SA said "there's nothing wrong with yours, BMWNA just wants to examine and study it"

I was hesitant... But obliged.

I'm sorry... but this sounds very bizarre :

Personally I wouldn't voluntarily let them anywhere close to something that has nothing wrong with it. I'm still over 2 weeks without my car because of a failed software update. My car drove just fine before that.

Good thing is....I already had contacted executive customer service at BMW NA.. they knew ahead of time my concerns. They told me they would stay updated by the dealer and for me to keep contact throughout the process to make sure things are ok in the end.
