The GTS is unknown. I'd only buy an original M1 as the only BMW investment, nothing else. 1M is worthless as investment IMO.
+1. Manual, Mezger, RS. Yes, 4.0 would be better, but you're going to pay $500,000 for that. You can get GT3 RS 3.8's for same price as some higher sticker new GT3... I'd go that route. Assuming money is flowing, I think we'll see them hitting mid $200's in the next 3-4 years (some are already there, but you can still get them for $160-$180 right now). Just don't put a lot of mileage on them.

You have to also add in storage, taxes, insurance and maintenance costs. Most likely a negative ROI even with some appreciation.

If you're purchasing this absolutely animal of a car to keep it locked up in a cage, you don't deserve the right to buy it.

So should BMW ask for a racing license befor they sell you one? Perhaps make you sign a boilerplate agreement that you will exercise X number of miles per year for the next Y years in the manner the car was intended?

Don't be silly, the only right involved in this transaction is the one to pay for it.

With the P1, McLaren decided to only sell the car to individuals who were going to drive the shit out of the car. The CEO said himself that the car is meant to be driven and they will not sell it to people who will keep it as a showroom piece, collector's item, investment or garage queen. I'm not saying the M4 GTS is comparable to a P1...however the concept is the same.

When you are on your death bed, you reflect on your past and your going to think:
"Damn I wish I got most out of the GTS" and money won't even matter anymore

I don't see the value in buying cars to have it appreciate over time and not using them

This is directed to anyone having their cars sit in their garage

I find it odd that so many people think they will get 1 of 300 cars in the US. Dealers will pick and choose who gets them. My buddy works at Porsche and the damn list for a GT3 RS is a mile long, and I refuse to pay 328k for a car that books at 201k it's insane.

You should bring your moralizing to the Ferrari forum. I'm sure they would appreciate and respond to your view, since "keeping it locked up in a cage" is precisely what new Ferrari owners do.

If BMW wanted the car to be driven they would not produce 300 of them to drive the market going bananas over 300 cars. It will drive high mark ups due to the limit volume, and yes they will be garage queens. Who going to pay my guess 200k plus, and beat the crap out of it on the track? Does not reason check with me, and if I pay 300k for a F car yes it will see limitd street time. Good luck on getting this car, and it will be interesting to see who the 300 are

A $150k property will not appreciate $100k in just a few years IMO.

So you think a $150k M4 GTS will appreciate $100k in a few years? I think that's pushing it...

My view is it will not appreciate at all with the CSL thing already in the horizon...

Then the next M3/M4 with even better techno stuff...

To appreciate it really need to drive special and perhaps a homologation special of a winning race car...which it isn't!

Just small production numbers alone won't do it.

Get your CR out on the track, it's a "club racer" not a garage queen.

I have a GPW CR (#597) also.

please don't.

You have $134k to blow and want to "invest" it on an item that'll depreciate the moment it is in an accident, doesn't quite sound like an "investment" does it?

Seriously, if you have that much money to blow, let me know, I got some florida swamp land for you to buy off of me.

If the past history with the 1M is of any indication, you might be able to buy it, drive it sparingly for about 1-2 years and eat almost no depreciation. But consider the ownership experience will be like walking on eggshells. You'll be afraid to take the car out when it's wet, or busy, or dusty, or this or that....then what's the point?

I have tracked a lot.

I received the following text from my Dealer today. "We just spoke with our BMW Rep. He is telling us that if we have anybody remotely interested in the GTS we (The Dealer) would need to send in a (driver) biography and get put in the running for the GTS. There is no guarantee to receive the GTS" (since production is limited).

Interesting.

Cheers,

Chris

If true, a classic illustration of bubbleheaded over management. Of one freakin' car?!!
