Ugly as it is, I sadly think it will sell like hot cakes in certain regions if priced right. For buyers in the market option of economical Honda, Toyota, etc. who have always dreamed of a BMW or those who are "label driven"... I wouldn't judge future purchases based on this car though... Especially if you are lucky enough to already be in an M-car or one of the more luxury/sport models. Why be worried about something that has no effect on your life...? That'd be like shopping at a store that only sells filet mignon and other "prime cuts" then never eating beef again if they decided to sell "choice cuts" also... Food for thought... pun intended.

Let's all be honest. 95% of these will be leased to high school kids in wealthy neighborhoods instead of the 3 series. That is, unless they want the x2 instead because US and our apparently love for SUVs

It's so, so, so ugly. The CLA is so much better than this thing, although I'd argue neither car needs to exist in the market.
I'm with you on everything except that the CLA is also a bad looking car IMO - hate this fwd badge exploiting nonsense

At least it has a "normal" grille.

FWD platforms aren't BMW's imo. This isn't Audi where 90% of their cars are FWD based AWD

The 2 looks very bad.

The new M2 will look terrible with this design.

It looks so much like a Toyota Corolla with M performance parts.

The new M2 will not have this design. In fact, it will share no more with this model than today's M2 shares with the 2 Series AT/GT (which is to say nothing or damn near nothing).

Is this an assumption? Is this in the news?

Why would BMW do that?

I absolutely hate how hood ridges have become the latest design trend. I also hate them while driving, kind of throws off my eyes.

I am glad someone mentioned the hood lines! This is a design trick to make the eyes wander as you approach the car. Toward the middle, it breaks up a large, boring, flat sheet of metal - to not look like a 70's Lincoln Continental. While, toward the fenders, rounds them to blend and make look wider. The inner to narrow and outer to widen - especially when sharing chassis's with other models... molding body parts around a chassis and power plant is MUCH easier than making unique chassis/model... Gee, who else shares build components with BMW... Not rocket science folks. But a few simple grips on a forum are not going to change billion dollar corporate forecasts...

It's gospel. The G87 will have as much in common with this abomination as the X7. It will be built on an entirely different platform.
