X3m rpm goes up after 10 mins in park help?
Hi I notice today when I have my car in park, after 10, mins the X3m rpm goes up to nearly 1000xrpm and stays there until I drive or restart it. Does anyone notice the same thing? I brought it used at 7k miles on it. And also I notice a rattle near the roof in the rear. Any information or help would be appreciated

I would assume that if you are idling in park for 10mins, various accessories/loads are coming on and by nature the rpm will increase to offset/compensate for that....e.g. cooling fans, ac compressor, etc. You won't notice it when in D with stop and go as there is still transmission load. You also may notice this rpm range during cold starts as well, but thats typically more for getting the catalytic convertors to operating temp faster.

Also idling up for load can be for engine cooling fans and not just the ac compressor. Either way, it should be normal operation unless yours is really extreme and continues for a long duration

Increased RPM most likely due to excessive load @ idle to aid with cooling and efficiency. Remember you have alot of electrical components, electrical pumps etc. Things are turning on and off (pumps, fans etc) and the alternator needs to keep up. Idle is increased when this happens to maintain proper charging strategy.

If your CEL went on, regardless if it went away, something went wrong and you should visit the dealer.

I've had the same issue a couple time in long drive tru wait. Rpm jump to 900, as stated probably due to load, but the car becomes quite loud with exhaust reverb on the wall lol

I noticed the idle high at times on my new X3M as well. It constantly does it, idling, or in D even. Not sure why. Seems odd. No accessories running (fan on 3 maybe).

If you must then just accept that the idle will raise a bit.

Just throwin my name in the hat. I’ve noticed this as well. Maybe one of the fancy coolers on the car. It’s not the “typical” cooling though in my experience. Rpms raise, but you don’t get the fans kicking on like most cars.

just an update. this is mine x3m, started a car drove it for some short period of time, came up to my buddy and didn't shut off an engine, rpms were at normal 6 7 hundreds then just raised up to 900 and hold for 4 mins estimated then came back to 6 hundreds. as some of you mentioned above that is the reason to think why it goes up if engine is not super hot, no ac on and no fan is working?!? mentioned about it to the dealer during they did my brake in and told me that everything is fine no issue recognized. and I'm not surprised about their answers. any thoughts guys, any new uncovered answers regarding this? if its the engine settings then we just have to close our eyes*

Think this is normal as mine has done/does the exact same on few occasions that i can think of. Last time was in the drive through at Mcdonalds on way home from work, so car not up to normal temp as had only been running say 5 mins before hand.
Raised to about 1k rpm and sat there for at least 2-3mins then went back down to normal.....exhaust note sounds great tho at 1k rpm
