just got my aFe intake
and the sound is amazing, i feel like it added power, ibk why alot of people argue that it actually reduces power, i had an AA tune before installed the intake?
any body else that has tried the afe with a tune, and then switched to the stock box with charcoal delete, scoops and drop in? |

I definitely lost power in mine. low end tq for sure. and the surging pissed me off. I am so much happier with my drop in and charcoal delete. but thats just me. not to mention the car doest vibrate at 4K rpms..... that was annoying as well. but the sound was super nice. i do miss that.

European Car Magazine did a report on this back in August 2007, yes it is on a 330i but interesting what they found, if you have not seen this before ...

The simple fact is the aFe system is too unpredictable. I'd say more than 90% of the people that have had it realized it reduced power. I'd be willing to bet that the stock airbox with a drop in filter and scoops produces higher numbers with the AA tune than the aFe intake. Until someone posts dyno charts, I still stick with my gut and say its for ricers.

The aFe for the 330i is already sealed with the top aluminum shield. The 335 dual cone system uses the hood as the top enclosure.

drive around with it for a while and then return to stock.... you will change your opinion.
I gained more with a drop in and scoops. especially the low end tq, that was recovered and no surging. still cant beat the sound though.

I dono, I haven't noticed much of a change in power but I have noticed a ~1-2 mpg drop on the highway. Could be caused by the AFE, could be caused by the P1553 code my OBDII is throwing.

How about the injen intake? Anybody here has experience with that? It supposidly adds 12hp
And I'm getting a BMW performance exhaust really soon, it's my next mod, how do you think the afe, aa tune and exhaust will be combined? |

no way the N52 engine will gain 12 HP with just an intake

I'm really happy with BMW's version of a round air filter enclosed in an air box.
The performance driving difference between the US air box and Euro air box is so different. If you take a look at the pictures in the album, the Euro air box is much larger (has more available air), the air flow in the Euro air box goes directly into the air filter and then right into the MAF senor (the US air flow goes into the air filter and then it can either go into the air horn / MAF senor or it can bypass the air horn for the time being and swirl around in the pocket next to the air horn in the air box). I wish that others would try this out, the euro air box plus scoops, for me my on ramp speeds have increase greatly with this setup alone. http://www.e90post.com/forums/album.php?albumid=3943 |

injen intake blows. afe is better than the injen, but both lose power. and youd be lucky to gain 6 hp from an intake on an NA engine. probably not even that. more like 2 hp.
all of those things combined will set you up nicely though. the tune will make the biggest difference. youll love the sound of the PE.
